I'm thinking of purchasing a thermarest neoair for tent camping from September to mid june. Temperature ranges will be from 5 degrees to 70 degrees. I was thinking about getting the x therm model however i'm not sure if it will be too warm for early summer use. Any comments?

The Xtherm will be fine in warmer weather (after all, you're typically laying in/on top of a sleeping bag which is warmer than the pad), and you'll be happier with the Xtherm at 5* than a less insulated pad.

But 5* isn't especially cold, so another way would be to get a Neoair Xlite, and use a full length 1/4" Evazote pad on top when it's going to be colder.

Evazote is now available again after a long spell...

I think that I want to go with a square pad not a mummy shaped one. I tend to move around a great deal when i'm sleeping and I think that I might just slide off of one of the mummy shaped ones.

look at the Xtherm wide then or the Max (it's rectangular)

I can't say enough good about the Xtherms- the one I use I've owned 8 years now, easily 200 nights on it and still going strong

I sleep on my XTherm Max year round and like it a lot. Best pad I've owned for comfort, while still being quite light and compact. Never felt like it was too warm in the summer. It's nice to have when its -20 though. wink

I heard from the Manager of a local sporting goods store that all current models of the Xtherm and other Thermarests are being discontinued so that the 2020 models will all have one way air valves and a couple other upgrades. Apparently, Thermarest was getting their market share taken away by Exped and others for not being as user friendly.

As a result, most Thermarests are -25% off at places like Moosejaw.com.

I went from an Exped downmat 9 dlx to a thermarest Xtherm. Both comforatable, both designed for cold weather.... the xtherm weight difference is the seller there. User friendly? Maybe times have changed, but the Exped was more of a PITA to blow up, especially if you use the recommended inflation bag. Maybe that has changed as I bought my Exped over 12 years ago.... which is now the basecamp pad and needs an air boost every night.
