,....found a very decent one,.....think I'm going to buy it tomorrow. The same dealer has a very nice John Deere 14" two bottom plow for $100 more and for the difference in price, I'd say that the John Deere is a much better buy.

But I want the single bottom. I'm not going to be breaking a lot of ground with *any* plow and I want to be able to concentrate the meager horsepower of my little tractor on one plow.

Also,..from what I understand,..those old Dearborn plows are more or less considered classic standards and there a lot of replacement parts available for them.

Well, the single bottom might not plug up.

I hope not. I'm only buying it to plow my notorious cane patch mulch under. The mulch is a foot thick in some places. I'm going to have to run it deep just to get it under the mulch. I'd really like to have that John Deere 2 bottom. It's a pretty implement. But I think i'd end up tearing my hair out trying to pull two 14" plows through that crap with an 8N.

That single 16" seems like a much better tool for my purposes.

But for anybody that's interested,....here's a dandy little two bottom 14" John Deere plow. I'd like to buy both of them.

What you planning on doing with it a single bottom is all one needs to plow a garden

I'm turning under a bunch of damn bamboo mulch that was left behind after the forest mulcher guy got done with it.

My 8N pulls two 16 inch bottom plows with no problem. But I live in a relatively sandy region. Not much clay, rocks, etc

I'm going to be dragging it through a quarter acre of river cane rhizomes.

I don't think that your 8n will pull a double in your sort of soil, in an unplowed patch. The single is a better bet.

Nuclear site prep might be your best option.

I'm trying to put it off as long as possible.

A book of matches would be a cheaper option.

It's out there smoldering now. Many people have suggested that I burn it. I don't think they have a proper concept of what a quarter acre of foot thick bamboo mulch represents.

It's damp out there now. I set it on fire back when it was dry and things got right sporty there for a while.

That's what we use on our garden.

If it won't turn without pulling the guts out of your little tractor, just wait until late winter. You might be surprised how much of that root system will rot over the winter. 1 bottom should be fine for a man of leisure. Not like it's 100 degrees out right now, no need to rush.

Oh,...I'm not in a rush. I just found a nice little old plow and thought that I'd give it a try. I had it mulched, I piled it up with a grader blade, I burned it,..

Next step is a plow.

They spun out long before...

Yeah,....they'll spin. I've got new 12.4 rear tires on mine and it spins them. Especially since I'll be driving on mulch.

It's going to be an interesting experiment.

Bristoe, from your description of your land, I would strongly recommend that you look at either a smaller, three or four prong, chisel plow, or even a single subsoiler-type plow. Flipping over all that organic material is going to very difficult. By ripping in first one direction, and then across at 90 degrees will achieve the same result with much less effort. Your tractor will thank you for it. One of those single sub soilers can be bought at TSC etc. for less than 200 bucks.
