Thinking about a HS Precision stock for my Howa 1500 in 7mm-08. Really interested in a lighter performance stock for it. Action is currently in a B&C Medallist, just thinking something lighter. Options are few, from what I can find, for a Howa 1500 and the HS caught my eye. It's expensive, more than I paid for the barreled action. I haven't upgraded stuff in a long time and curious to read what opinions are for a HS and if there's anything else I missed that's out there.

A HS precision stock won’t be much lighter than the BC medalist you currently have if not heavier. If your trying to save weight I’d look to a McMillan edge fill stock. I’m pretty sure they will inlet for the vanguard/howa 1500.

"HS" and "light" generally don't go in the same sentence. I have two HS stocks. Love the ergos. But they aren't light. Generally 38 to 40 ounces each. As stated above, McMillan Edge fill would be a better option for "light" (generally 24-26 ounces) if McMillan will inlet for the Howa...

A B&C Ti stock will be lighter than the H-S. I just bought a Ti for a 700 & it is 25 oz.

Oh, Dude, you picked the wrong place to talk about HS stocks, this is a McMillan-centric forum. We hate on HS as bad as we hate on Leupold.

Hmmm.... Didn't get the letter. I've got a Leupold scope on top of both of my HS stocked rifles. Guess I'm a slow learner...

The B&C Mountain Ti is a nice stock, I have one, but it's not listed for the Howa on the website. The sporter model for the Howa specs at 2.25 lbs

I like the HS sporter stock and they have a lighter weight version, but you will have to go somewhere else for a significant weight savings. McMillan, MPI, Manners, Brown, Borden (forgot who is making these now) and some others will be lighter but weight savings comes at a price. These others do not have the aluminum chasis but a good synthetic stock doesn't need it. What you have now many wood stocks will be lighter.

Decided to just stay with the B&C Medalist for now. Rifle is all set up and shooting nicely. Maybe a winter project, maybe not, but for the upcoming WI deer rifle season, this is it.

Glad it's NOT a HS stock OR a Leupold! LOL!

HS means “Heavy Stock”
BC means “Buncha Crap”

Brother has the Sako Classic edge fill on a Vanguard 257. Great stock that totally changed how the rifle feels.

You're quite welcome, sir.

It may be a late spring, early summer job, given some of lead times I've heard. My Ruger Hawkeye took the longest.

Is Lon Horiuchi still associated with HS Precision? If so I wouldn't take a stock given to me, except as a target. I think the McMillan Edge fill is the lighter and maybe stronger. Good luck. and ask again if you need help spending money. Us loonies can always help with that. Be Well, RZ.

I'd duct tape a barrelled action to a broom stick before I used anything from HS. If you can't/won't spring for a McMillan,Manners,Brown etc... then B&C. They choose to align themselves with a cock sucker associated with the clusterphucq at Ruby Ridge and specifically THE man that shot an unarmed woman holding an infant?
Too bad it wasn't them instead of Pac-Nor.

Hope Randy gets the chance for some payback before he dies.
