I've been shooting Sierra, 250gr game kings from my 338 rum for years.
My reloads are going at 3,050 fps, average.
Excellent accuracy, and thumped an elk at 700 yards.
What will going to 300 gr bullets do for me ?
Stay with game kings, or go Berger ?

The 250 Sugars(all of 'em) are pieces of fhuqking schit. Hint. Congratulations?!?

In Today's atmosphere. Hint.

Simply insert a 250 Skinner and gain by leaps and bounds. Hint.

[Linked Image from imagizer.imageshack.com]

The 285 Hornie, rates more than a thunk...even if you factor handing over 250fps of launch speed away. Hint.

The 300gr Boger HighBird cain't hang, because it has more mass(less speed) and lesser BC(.822) than the Hornie(.829). Cain't speak to the 300gr Hornie Beer Cans,as I don't have any on hand yet. The 300gr Sugar has a paltry .768 BC,which is welllllll shy of the .284" 180 ELD. Hint.

Pass the 285's and hold the Fluff.

Hint.....................

Would think the extra mass of a 300 gr bullet could be useful in some situations.

The 300 gr Berger OTM has proven to be a fantastic long range elk killer. The Hybrid design of this bullet makes load development easy.

What works well don’t need to be fixed.
Let’s not forget that higher velocity creates a higher BC.
Because of the velocity, you are using the best bullet for that gun out to about 1500 yds.
But you could also go shoot and find out the real world answers rather than getting opinions.

I have been happy with the accuracy and terminal performance of the Hornady 250 spire point starting at 2900 fps. Doesn't seem high tech, but it works.

I have been shooting the Sierra 300gr Match King since 2004.
IMO it is the most lethal bullet ever‼️..

300's may seem great, but it takes a huge charge of black stuff to get them to the speed you need for any realistic long range results. With the results I've had with the 225 grain Nosler Partitions, Swift Aframes, and Hornady Interlocks, I'm thinking I would stick to these and work up the best load you can for them. Starting them at 2950 has worked well for me for a long time and accuracy has been stellar... which is the name of the game IMO....

I don’t mind the 300 Berger but the 285 eld is soft I’m playing with the 270 eldx at the moment.
I’m running a EDGE.

Two EDGE’s and a LM here, don’t waste your time just run the 300 OTM Berger. Hornady has nice numbers, too bad they can’t hang.

Adding an MOA is worth the consistency.

The 270 eldx are more for grins than anything as the 300 Berger is a killing [bleep].

I feel really old here; I am still shooting old 250 grain Nosler Partitions. But they still seem to work.
