The key to big gasser towing and really ownership in general is to enjoy the cheaper initial purchase price, the cheaper fuel, and the cheaper maintenance. Don’t be afraid to put your foot in it when towing and don’t worry about the fuel mileage. The 3/4 ton gas trucks from the big 3 are probably some of the lowest maintenance and most trouble free pickups you can own right now. Just let her eat and enjoy the ride.

I'm not especially old, and I vividly remember towing pretty good loads
with 300, 318, 350/51's. Schiddy 70's -90's engines at that.
460 was a big dog, 250 hp (maybe)375 torque.

Heck, look at the Ford 534. A big truck engine. (363hp/490ft/lbs
Not a big engine in a pickup but the engine in a semi.
Grossing 73,280#.
Slow, but they weren't the slowest.

Yep, I think that 6.4 (410hp/429ft/lbs) will occasionally move
15k# ok!

Yeah my uncle just bought a new to him 1965 Ford F700 grain truck full load is supposed to be 24,000 GVW. It has a “high output” 292 Y block 170hp/279TQ.
Another week or two and I’ll be playing truck driver hauling grain for him, it’ll probably pull at least as good as the 1953 Chevy C60 with the 235 BlueFlame 6 that I used to haul in.

My 2019 ram half ton has the 8 speed transmission in it and I really like it. I've always owned gm before and swore id never own a ram but the new body style half ton got me. Mine is the 5.7 but does around 16mpg all around. I think if I was looking at 3/4 ton the question between gas and diesel would be answered by how often I towed anything. If your going to tow a lot get the diesel.
