A herd of about 30 elk crossed our path while we were hiking to our spot, so I tagged out on a cow around 8:30 on opening day. It was purely a fluke, but so many guys were successful that Mountain Meats stopped taking animals for a while.

I shot a broken 4x4 that used to be a 5x5. 6.5 GAP and 156 Berger stoned him on the dead run at 150 yards. All 3 processors in Craig stopped taking animals.
