I suggest you determine whether your hunting area allows use of lures. Many states do not because of the possibility of lure's contamination with CWD prions.

I mention this because most lures/scents are obtained by way of penned animals. And penned animals are reputed to be significantly more likely to have CWD, possibly in its dormant stage.

Just a thought.

The question is: do you want to take a chance on using a product that might spread the disease? That article was pretty good, but in the end, it's the science that matters. I've yet to see any test results on urine products at all, odd to me, since they're being targeted as a possible vector. Lacking that evidence, but not wanting to be part of the problem, I've sworn off the pee products, but might harvest glands off a doe in my area if available, since any prions present are well, present. In next-door VA, even that is illegal.

Also odd to me is the concept of giving any weight in the decision process to public comment, or input from the pee industry. The science alone should be the determiner. Test the lures, and if CWD is found in any, you have your answer about what should be done. To be on the safe side, just ban them altogether unless they're certified safe, though I don't see that ever happening.

EDIT: Shoulda known. Just checked, and found the industry is already on this, with some brands getting certified as free from contamination, and states (one, at least) modifying their rules to allow certified lures. Must be a lot of money in that piss.🤔
