I'm with Barkoff as having lived in Santa Cruz most of my life and worked at the University for 30 years I appreciate what he has said about people he knows there. I moved to Lake County in Northern California for the hunting and fishing and to get out of the traffic congestion with that area. As a conservative I really enjoy my life here and the attitudes of the people here. There are a lot of liberals in California but there are also a lot of conservatives. The Democraps under Newsome are slowly but surely in my opinion are digging their own graves and hopefully people will realize this and ask for change. He was elected by LA, SF, Sacramento and silicon valley. The rest of our state is pretty much of a conservative nature. You out there complaining about liberal Californians coming to your state gives us hope here. Hopeffully if enough of them leave we will get our state back. At 82 I probably won't see it in my lifetime but I can always hop but until then I will continue hunting and fishing with my Daughters and their husbands and my Granddaughters and their husbands. As the butcher that processes out game asked, does everybody in your family hunt, my reply is we don't let them if they don't. There is still hope.

The reality of California is that our politics, big cities, taxes, ect. are a mess. The reality is also that we live in a huge state. Most of the state is AG land or mountains. All of those areas are conservative. Not CA conservative, just straight up conservative. I.e.pro-life, pro 2A, pro immigration reform, ect.

Many good and bad leave this state. Don't worry, I won't be one of them "tainting" your wonderful states. Love the ocean, and the Sierra Mountains too much. Hate the libs and the taxes. But I can afford them. As long as the hippies and yuppies keep eating almonds.

As many have said there are millions of conservatives in Calif but far more wacko liberals. As to Lake County - you would have loved it even more in the 60's through 80's. I was just there last month during one of the PG&E power shut downs for 4 days. Enjoyed fantastic beer and food at O'Meara Bros there in Lakeport. No power all around. Monday night (when they are usually closed). Turned on a big generator and opened up to serve those needing it.

Have to say I was shocked at the people and culture at the other end of the lake from you and the beautiful park in downtown Lakeport. Still far better than SF, LA or other areas. And for those that have never been there half ot that county is wilderness with few people and no towns. From there north to the Oregon border there is beautiful wild country and few people compared to the cities and their masses of ......

Well the city of Boise, has been influenced enough by Californians that there are 2 democrats running for mayor. It's not which democrap and which republican got the most votes, they want to limit your choice to democrats, and they flooded the zone with them. I seldom even drive to Boise.

I fully understand that their are many very good conservatives in California. No question. But please stop defending the failure that is that state and expecting us to welcome the cancer into our homes as well.

Spot on.

We've had some good Cali folks move in around here, great people actually. They do exist.
But we've had some real Prog butth o les as well. They destroy the culture by implementing new laws and PC crap and move on like carpenter ants..

We hate 'em and rightfully so.

I was just in the Boise area with my lifelong best friend that recently moved there.
He just got his wolf trapping certification and I look forward to this winter's festivities.
We hunted bull elk together this fall and due to circumstances, just couldn't seal the deal on the big one.
We attended the NRA banquet in Boise and though we went home without any new rifles, we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves even their safes are bulging with iron...🤣

Sal,

might as well stop while you're ahead. Can't turn 'em, they know better already.

Glad your friend and you had a good hunt.

Californians ruining Idaho? Back in the day it was "Texans ruining Colorado"," New Yorkers" ruining Florida. You can probably find Kentuckians complaining about Floridians screwing up their state.

I had a neighbor biiitch about me moving to Montana from Colorado, called me a greenie(after the original state lic. plate color). Thing is, he was born in Oregon; friggin' hypocrite.

The problem isn't what state your from, its letting our country fall to so-called progressive politics turned socialism.

Plenty of libs/socialists/progressives/commies born right in your own state you say is being ruined by "those _________ " fill in the blank.

I also chuckle when people complain about "out of staters" "forcing up the real estate prices". Nothing stopping the local/native from selling their property for less to "Californians".

That last sentence is pretty ignorant. There is a very important and inescapable reason not to sell for less than you can get if you want to keep living here. A local who wants to make a short move has to get as much as possible to have a foothold in the local market.

So, yeah, I moved here from California in '75. It was kind of against my will, but after about a year, I couldn't see any rational reason to move back. Unlike a lot of California transplants, I happily adopted the local point of view on almost everything - including not wanting more californicators to move in.

The disappointing thing though, is that I am seeing more and more kids from families that have been here for generations who are more leftist than most the people I grew up with in NorCal.

You haven't seen what happened when California moved in and drove up real estate prices and changed the whole dynamics of the communities they overran. Rile and carp all you want about our dislike for what the invasions brought. You have your roots stuck there. Too bad, too. We would have welcomed you with open arms. You're not who we are addressing...not at all. I've always enjoyed your posts and looked forward someday to meeting you.

We have seen our way of life completely ruined in many instances, and it was done by the flood of urban and suburban California residents who fled for mostly economic reasons...lower taxes and cheaper houses. They brought their anti-hunting, anti-gun attitudes with them, and due to the masses of them now here, it prevails.

Same deal in the land that was God's Country in Western Oregon. Not 100% CA but a bunch of them. Used to be said is was like an influx of 10,000 per year. Over a few decades it got Californicated over the edge.

I do understand both sides of this issue. My family is now on the 6th generation in California. I expect any of them to move to the many states commenting here and fit right in. But, .... a big but.... , much of the problem with those in the state and those moving are not related to people from California. I am 2500 miles away and be away for most of my life. I personally know within the last year and a half 10 people who have moved to California. From Illinois, Missouri, NY, Maryland and Virginia. Two already moved back as they could not afford to live there. 9 of these 10 were already very liberal in their viewpoints before they moved out there.

The issue is due to the mentality, philosophy of life, and the liberal mentality within the school systems across this nation. The fact is that life as we know it is changing and changing rapidly. I don't like it. I can arrange my life as I can to minimize it but it is happening all across this country. California is more obvious, in part because of the population of about 38 million. Los Angeles county alone is 14 million or so. Compare that to the state you now live in. Move are leaving Calif than moving there but the population is still increasing due to illegals entering the country and state and the birthrate (many those on the welfare dole already.) Sad but true.

As to rising real estate that is happening all over where there is a decent price. I don't see that the buyer paying what one considers too much is any more guilty than the seller happy to have a buyer paying more than they might have hoped for. Is it really any different than the effect of liberal Austin. It was cute when it was "keep Austin weird." San Fransisco was cute when it was flower children hippies. But in both areas the entire population changed. I have seen it in Boulder Denver over the past 30 years or so. I expect the influence in MT from the more liberal "big" cities there will have the same influence. Constant alertness and the attempt to educate and bring about an understanding will help stem the change.

I prefer the snow outside and the temps heading toward 10. At least it keeps the homeless off the streets as compared to Los Angeles tent city along the sidewalks. Enough of my chatter.

Buy as many out of state tags as you can afford, be sure shop and spend freely in locally owned stores too. Nothing better than an arrogant tourist.

Not mentioned (yet) in this discussion is SW Utah. Close enough to Southern California to be within driving distance of family, etc. Besides Californians, many of the newcomers are Mormons from N Utah seeking a warmer climate, but still within visiting distance of their families, as well as the familiarity of a major presence of their church. What both of these groups have in common is relative affluence, which drives up costs of real estate, etc. As with Idaho, the less affluent locals, especially younger folks, have a tough time of it. I characterize the local economy as "California prices and Utah wages". Had a $24 pizza the other night, a first for us. Also some $12-13 burgers.

Idaho Shooter's quote applies here as well. You either believe in free enterprise or you don't. It comes as a package.
