ANCHORAGE (KTUU) - A man is expected to survive after a brown bear attacked him while he was out walking his dogs.

According to Alaska State Troopers, the man was walking his dog when a sow with two or three cubs attacked him. Troopers say it was reported that the dogs chased the bears off, while the injured man was able to run to a house in the area, from where the incident was called in.

Troopers say that Alaska Department of Fish and Game officials are currently looking for the bear.

A call from Homer dispatchers says the man was located at Diamond Ridge Road and Rucksack Drive on the north side of town and that the man had a "severe neck injury."

Troopers say he is expected to survive but could not release any additional information on his condition.

As long as they can find food, what need going to den?

Walked the dog around the State Park campground last night. Two moose at the trailhead down to the river, so bypassed that as part of our usual route, instead intended to go around the base of the hill on a game trail (I clear it for walking) through woods, and come into the yard out back.

Gut feeling just before stepping off the pavement changed my mind. 15 minutes or so after getting back to the house the dog informed me there was a bear out there. Never saw it, but dogs don't lie. Except about food and walks.

Sometimes those gut feelings get no proof, but when this kind of stuff happens, it makes the hair on my neck stand up and creepies crawl up and down my back. I pay attention to gut feelings .

No, I wasn't packing.

I pay attention to gut feelings, too.

But mostly just when I am hungry...

This was erroneously posted in another thread. Obviously it was in reference to B&C cougars ..
