Not sure what forum to stick this in, but does anybody have a line on the bolt-on brackets you can attach to a table top for a portable shooting bench? I bought some from bxroads here years ago and I need to build another bench for somebody for Christmas. I gave my last one to my dad. This style has the angle built in so you can screw in three metal pipe legs. Several folks have made them over the years. Thanks......

easy to build.......if you have a welder & metal chop saw

1.25" black pipe sleeves....4x4" plate 1/4" thick

Cut sleeve on 15* angle & weld to plate.....drill four holes

Mount to table bottom....I make my tables from 2 pcs 3/4" plywood

24" wide x 36" (ish) long

Have kilt 1000's of p/dogs from this 20 yr old table......20 Vartarg shown

And, for big boomers, get longer pipes to make a standing bench like Elmer advocated. Hard kicking big guns are a lot easier to manage from a standing bench.

Doesn’t look hard to make. I need a bench to leave at deer lease.

Here's one I made with Lonny's brackets and instructions. Rock solid. Two pieces of 3/4 ply glued and screwed. Countersunk bolts and washers to keep top smooth. Home Depot will cut and thread the pipe for you.

i could find alot of uses for a stool like the one in the pic..

As for a tall bench why not a lower chair for getting under the bench for big boomers? I would think a bench with long legs would wiggle too much. That is what I do.....

While not as beautiful, you can attach a pipe flange to bench and use shims under flange to get the angle.

Here you go. Copied this one from our shooting club. You could stand a circus elephant on them. 3/4 ply sides, 2X4 legs, 2xwhaterever top. Height on this one is 21 before the top has been added; adjust leg height as needed for what you want. The 15.5 does not include the 3/4 ply.

simply cut the pipe sleeve on a 15* angle........weld to plate

Galvanized pipe, not thin flimsy stuff, will have the bench as solid as conventional pipes.

Standing is the way to best absorb recoil, sitting on a lower chair or stool wouldn't be the same, IMO.

A picture of Elmer using a standing bench, shooting his big guns put the idea in my head.

welders do not like galvanized pipe..............

No, but this is a really small job, not enough zinc fumes to do anyone in.

Not sure the bracket needs to be galvanized. I like the heavy galvanized pipe, especially for the tall, standing bench. You wouldn't need to weld the galvanized pipe, just the bracket and black pipe would work. Notice the hole in the pipe leg. I insert a big screw driver to tighten the pipe leg into the bracket. Tightened well, it's very steady, no shake. I could have brushed it before taking the photo. Photo is a bit distorted, the bracket to pipe fit is not on a bevel, it's square.

This design was published in a shooting rag years ago. It's not a new concept.

I guess black pipe would work as well. Just needs to be heavy gauge pipe to be solid, especially the tall version.

My long pipes are pretty heavy. When tightened, the bench is rock solid. Zero shake. Drilling holes in the pipes, as shown, really helps get them properly tightened.

I use 1.25" diameter......

used 1.50" on a couple......purty heavy......

legs usually 31" long......

Mine must be 1 1/2" and the standing bench, long legs are pretty heavy.
