I've owned a pile of all different firearms, but never a Marlin lever gun. I've shot them, been around them, but never bought one. Old man had a matching set of 336 Texan and a 39ml mountie when I was a kid and always thought it was cool. Today a pard called and said a guy wanted to sell a 336 and a 39 golden in excellent condition. I couldn't turn the price down so I bought them sight unseen.

Turns out it's a 30AS and a 39 Golden. Really nice shape and obviously shot or carried very little. For the age, great shape. What are they worth? What's a 30AS? I'm thinking the 39 is worth $650 +/- and the .30-30 is worth $400-$450?

Blue Book, 37th Ed shows the 30AS as a no frills version of the 336CS mfg 1983-2007. It was called the 30AS until 2000, then 336AS, formally of the Glenfield line. Stock is walnut stained birch. 100% Blue Book is $375, 98% is $275. But Blue Book values often lag behind a moving market, probably OK in a static market.

Golden 39A has gold plated trigger and sling swivels, mfg 1959-1987. 100% is $450, 98% is $375.

Those numbers sounds a bit low to me, . Your estimates are probably better. It depends on the market and the area. Steel and walnut gun values are a bit soft. But Marlin levers, JM stamped, pre safety and for sure, pre-Remling do have their advocates, and in that group, surely more demand than Blue Book suggests.

IMO.

I bought them for the 39. Probably dump the 30as after I run a couple boxes of .30-.30 through it. If I keep it I'll switch the stocks out to something nicer.
