Stopped at the Cabela's in ABQ recently and they had yuge wire bins of Cabela's branded wool socks. Price seemed OK so I checked 'em out. The tag lists the material composition...20% wool. WTF? Is this common? How can you call something a wool sock when it's only 20% wool? Can socks self-identify now?

Yes, that’s common. Or maybe it’s just Bass Pro, I did the same thing a couple years ago there with their BPS labeled socks.
Pretty much stick with name brands and check every la el before purchase now.

Most “wool” socks are a blend of wool, olefin, spandex. 20% seems low though. I’m used to seeing 40-60%.

They wear out fast. The key to not wearing your socks out, or any of your clothes, for that matter, is just to move less. That or go nekkid. Not recommended for the frozen tundra of Montana or the Norf Poll or the like.

Merino. any more my feet live in those socks... bought a pair lord knows how many years ago... and the next year I bought another package of 6 socks...and same the following year.... that last package is like 6 years old... I haven't had to use them yet, as they first two packages of socks, are still going strong and I have no idea how long I've been wearing them now...but I wear them year round anymore... best value in foot wear under the sun in my book....

Along those same lines, I bought some of the 'Memeber's Mark' tequila at Sam's a while back. Pretty darned good for a margarita on the fly!

I've got some Lorpen brand wool socks that are probably going on 5 or 6 years old now and they've been bomber.

Call me a heathen but my go tos these days are the heaviest Redhead jobbies from Bas Pro. There's some wool in there but lots of man made mystery chit too. They just work I've got a half dozen pair and same with the medium weight ones. Back in the day before all the wicking tech and stuff we have now it was thick Icelandic wool socks.
