Same story in Pa.

The last cougar was killed in the 60's.
Maybe. Or before and that one was an escapee.

We don't have any. PERIOD.
End of discussion. None, not possible!

If one is spotted it's debunked.

But then they smarted up.

"It is possible that one may enter the state during a
migration. Just a visitor passing through.
And killing it would be highly illegal.

Look at this state. Explain how a neighboring state might have them,
They might visit, but would never consider staying?

I know, it's the phuggin taxes.
They wouldn't want to pay our high fuel taxes.

It's insulting that they think anyone would buy such a story.
No wonder there are so many tinfoil aficionados.

There are areas of E Washington where I’d bet lion populations are as high or higher than anywhere in the country, and there are a metric schit ton of deer. Which is precisely why there are so many lions, and lions don’t like company. They get pushed out.

Eventually, if an area has the carrying capacity, I’d bet lions will set up shop.

"cougar takes down a doe in Wisconsin". The same thing happens at least a dozen times each year within a mile of my house. Occasionally, one will take an elk. I expect to see fewer kills this year because, thanks to an overly liberal doe season, whitetail numbers are way down. On the other hand, mule deer populations are recovering somewhat. When deer are scarce enough, cougars will often make do with coyotes or, in more developed areas, poodles.
In the past 25 years or so, we have had two years where there was little or no cougar activity. During those years there was a family of wolves which hunted over about a ten mile radius with our place on the eastern edge of their territory. While they were here, the cougars were elsewhere. Most of the pups got shot and the adults moved; now at least one cougar is back.
When there was no cougar, there was a definite increase in snowshoe rabbits. GD

We are finally starting to see a few bobcats in the Central Farmland where I hunt and I would tend to think Cougars would be pretty hard on them. Bears probably tend to take a lot more fawns in spring than anything else around here and coyotes in winter. DNR refuses to look at trailcam pics from a friend nearby of a cougar, that way they can still deny it.

It's amazing that they know every animal that 'visited' the state - takes some spectacular outdoor skills , all trained by BrentD ?

Hahaha. For sure.

For those of you complaining about your states not recognizing that you have lions, remember, when the lions show up, they bring the feds and the ESA, plus a bunch of PETA types.

Wisconsin USED to have a huge whitetail deer population, after wolves, bears and now Mountain lions not so much. That's what I hear from guys I know in Northern Wisconsin. Too many damned predators that the DNR won't let you hunt.
