Costco merino rock.
I don’t get but a couple years out of them, but I’m on my feet and moving all day. For the price, can’t be beat. And at a mere 20% of the cost of those darn high roller socks!

I've got some Lorpen brand wool socks that are probably going on 5 or 6 years old now and they've been bomber. I have a pair of this brand - so dang tight around my upper ankle/leg . And i don't have thick ankles - a person who does would have no circulation in their feet . Are these other wool socks recommended tight fitting ????? I bought some of the brand Icebreaker that were too tight. On the Darn Toughs, they come sizes, heights, and various cushion. Be very specific in trying then replicating what will work for you. Costco, laughing, they're a few wrungs below where serious sock talk starts... Maybe, but us po' folks can't afford $20 socks for daily wear. One or two pairs maybe for serious field use... You only need a couple, they're that darn good. Seems every time I go somewheres I only need a couple of socks, unless I'm hunting and forget paper towels.

Sure wish I could get the old wool blend socks issued in the army in the late 1960's...seemed like the best of all worlds.
But then, I was the only guy in my unit that LIKED army chow, so maybe I ain't a very discerning consumer.
Well this is a fine pickle we're in, should'a listened to Joe McCarthy and George Orwell I guess.

At least 3 dozen, different models in this house currently. 1403 is likely the best all around sock I've worn. Thanks for the link, have a pair inbound to test.

I tried a pair of SmartWool socks in 2004 just to see what all the hype was about. I have purchased nothing else since then. I have been walking between 5 and 12 miles daily, largely off trail, in the mountains of Wyoming for the last 25 days in Altra running shoes or Salomon boots but always w/ SmartWool socks. No blisters, no cold feet in the snow and I am a true tenderfoot. I don't know if they are the best ever but they perform way above their cost. Probably the best value of all my gear purchases. Call me a heathen but my go tos these days are the heaviest Redhead jobbies from Bas Pro. There's some wool in there but lots of man made mystery chit too. They just work I've got a half dozen pair and same with the medium weight ones. Back in the day before all the wicking tech and stuff we have now it was thick Icelandic wool socks. I don't know if they are still, but they used to have a lifetime guarantee. I would see a Forest Service crew pull up with a garbage bag full of them. The BP service counter would call up a case of socks and they would switch them out 1 for 1. Those FS guys really earn their living with their feet so if they are using those socks there must be something to them. I believe they still are guaranteed for life. I can see why the oldest Redhead pair I've got is prolly 8 years old hard to tell them from the new ones. Yeah 15 bucks for a pair of sox, I wasn't always a high flying sock pimp and couldn't get my head around that. And I've got 15 year old Costco socks to prove it! haha. Which to add to that debate they're just fine my only bitch is that after years of hot washing and hot drying (never, ever complain about the laundry goddess) most of them have shrunk. I wear them around town daily wear but they're all on the snug side, no fault to their makers. Merino doesn't like being blasted with a hot dryer. Anyways back to sock pimpin at some point my wife bought me some Redheads she saw me eyeing up but too cheap to buy them. I was sold. I buy a pair here and there since and its not like I'm a complete garish rich prick..

I am not really brand loyal and like many of those already discussed. I have been thoroughly satisfied with Smartwool and Costco socks. I’ve also been satisfied with Lorpen socks. I was issued Darn Tough socks in 2012 and have no complaints. I have worn all of the above in extreme climates ranging from 120+ in Africa to the low teens in Europe.

I really like Smartwool for everyday socks, before it gets cold. Their ankle height crew socks are my typical go-to for casual wear.
I wear FITS or Omni-Wool for work as I have to meet uniform requirements.
When it get colder, I start wearing the Costco for everyday uses.
My hunting socks are all Smartwool in various weights to match the temps.
All mentioned above are around 70%+ Merino. I don't even own any cotton or other material socks at all.

In years back I have had Sams and Costco socks for several years with no complains. I just got a set of this years Costco merino wool socks and can not see a difference from my older pairs.
