In general Edwards is not a bad governor, a little more of an old school democrat. West Point grad.
Rispone ran a little bit of a weak campaign, especially early on.

After decade upon decade of solid Democrat state control, for the past 9 years the Louisiana Democrat party has only been able to hold on to one state level office at a time with Republicans winning all the rest. This time it just happens to be the office of Governor. Democrats have only been able to win the Louisiana Governor's office two consecutive elections once since 1980 and that one time the Democrat Governor switched to the Republican party in the last year of his term in office. Republican candidates have won all of Louisiana's electoral votes for going on two decades now. Sounds to me like Louisiana Democrats really need to be especially careful on stairs...

A parallel between Kentucky and Louisiana is that the both GOP candidates, one an incumbent, the other the challenger, were rather weak in the support they had with the GOP voters. It also shows that a local or state GOP candidate, who is not well liked among the voters, is not going to benefit from the support of the president. Although most people on here pooh-pooh the notion, I think that could be a warning sign. I hope it isn't, and this is nothing but a case of the Republicans thinking they can run anybody and win.

Hardly a crushing. The Kentucky governors race was much, much closer, and as with Louisiana, shows a huge divide between rural and urban voters. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out what that difference is either.

Edwards was gov. before Trump was president, so a deep south seat didn't fall to the democrats. Edwards, like Pelosi, is a career politician, Rispone is a business man that has never held political office. While I dont like everything Edwards has done, La. passed one of the stronger pro life bills while he was governor and he is pro gun.
