Here is one that hit a deer through the front of the chest and penetrated about 14 inches. The shot was approx 70 yards from a 300 Win mag at 3000 fps muzzle velocity. Retained weight is 48 grains.

Obey lawful commands. Video interactions. Hold bad cops accountable. Problem solved.

The deer did die as a point in fact. That is how the bullet was able to be recovered.

Complete "bullet failure"... Complete, I say....
I try to stick with the basics, they do so well. Nothing fancy mind you, just plain jane will get it done with style. You want to see an animal drop right now? Shoot him in the ear hole. BSA MAGA

Personally I won't use these for elk because my elk shots are just as likely to be at 30 yards as at 300.
I might use them in my 308 win starting at 2660 fps.
The 212 Eld X might be better suited to the 300 Win Mag.
The 178's do shoot under 1" in this 300 Win mag at 100 yards.

Thanks for sharing the pic. I'd agree with you on the 212 maybe being a better fit, and the 178 likely may be a good 308 / 30-06 bullet for medium game.
Now with even more aplomb
