A few years ago there was a story of a deer hunter that shot his partner - right between the eyes. Now that was a little harder to swallow as an accident.

Sort of.

Two years ago I took my 10 year old grandson (at the time) to a Hunter Safety course and the instructor was a GI Joe know it all that thought he knew everything but I only dared to correct him once - didn’t want him to take it out on my grandson (who scored 50 out of 50 on the test). laugh

My brother-in-law took his grandson to one about 5 years ago and he said the old codger of an instructor made numerous wrong statements.

When you have some idiots doing the teaching, what do you expect the result to be?

Scary stuff shooting at sound. Years ago was hunting with a friend and upon returning to camp I hear a bunch of shots fired. Hit the ground and stay there for about 5 minutes. Finally get up and walk into camp and ask my friend about the shots. His response is I saw a bunch of deer walking away, yea did you see a buck? Their had to be one there! Trip ended right then and there. Just after last light the noise outside of camp just might be your hunting partner returning to camp.

i am sure darkness played a role. For some reason, legal shooting time ends well after it is too dark to see anything to shoot, especially if it is overcast.

I don't know if that's supposed to be humor, a dig, or both.

Being on similar latitude as MI, I know it's dark around here at 5:30 PM this time of year.

Supposedly the call to 911 was made immediately after the shooting. And it was 5:30-something when the 911 call came in.

Hopefully the wounded brother heals up well, then takes the shooter's muzzleloader away from him and beats him with it.

Timing of sunrise and set is hugely influenced by longitude...

Might be when they got to the field.

Sunset for Nov 16th was roughly 5:15 for that area, end of legal hunting hours was 5:40pm.

as i mentioned, if it is overcast, dusk and/or raining, you can't see sh_t.

the idiots i used to hunt with would stay well past the time you could see anything, before emerging with guns loaded, as if they are going to get a shot at something in the bushes

I was talking to someone who said he was hunting with a friend and the friend died, non firearms related. He had to tell the family which he never met. I can't imagine having to tell a sister-in -law that I killed her husband.

I just thinking I know that the article did not say the guy died.
