Fred, that old Biesen rifle is not your style... you best send it my way... wink hell it's probably in some old obsolete caliber like 270WCF

Says 30-06 on it not even sure where to find Ammo for it does hornady make any thing I can run through it at a PRS match.

Congrats for being in the right place for that nice buck!

That old classic rifle is beautiful.....I'm not a collector. So, I'm asking from an uninformed background would it hurt the value very much to have a Decelerator recoil pad put on a custom like that?
I'm thinking a sporter weight 30-06 without a pad deals some pain?

Nice buck. Beautiful rifle. No flies on the ought six, despite rumors to the contrary.

20 years ago a hunting buddy wanted a Sendero in Rem. 300 Ultra Mag, but no dealer around here had one. So he finally settled on that rifle in 300 Weatherby. Worked up some really good loads and was rarin' to go on opening day of buck season. Not sure why he wanted that, since he already had a 40XB in 7mm mag and a 7x300 Weatherby, but WTH?

Set up where he had up to 500 yard shooting opportunities and waited for sun up. Around 8:30, heard a big pa-whump down the valley from where I was. Called him on the radio, asked what he'd gotten. Small buck, as it turned out. Then inquired, how far? Some mumbling and a barely audible "about 65 yards".

Asked if he'd had enough gun, radio went quiet. smile

30-06 pre 64 Winchester.

Sweet rifle. Doesn't get any better than that. As for those saying the 30-06 would be unbearable to shoot with its hard butt plate, I have 2 pre 64 fwt 30-06 rifles and they are gentle shooting with their aluminum butt plates. Not bad at all.... Thanks for sharing

Not really, but even if it did it would be nothing compared to the pain of putting a saw blade to an Al Biesen stock.

Biesen worked out of Spokane.

I enjoy hunting whitetails in that type terrain. Nice bucks there. Kids got a surplus of elk meat in freezer this fall or I'd be deer hunting vs bird hunting.

Many moons ago I had that issue with a 7mm Rem Mag. Prepped for cross canyon shots and took a buck at abut 5 yds feeding in a drainage. Could actually hear its teeth grinding as I was waiting for the head and neck to lift. Likely, muzzle blast alone would have been sufficient.

Great bucks and rifle. Will that Al Biesen ever hunt?

As for changing the pad, Biesen was famous for his steel butt plate. It makes the rifle extra special, albeit less practical to have one. Therefore a real buttpad would significantly impact value. If I were to hunt with that, i would bolt it in to a Howa or a nice laminate stock.

And a slip on recoil pad, and paint that hideous stock!! 😁😁😁😁

It will hunt one week next year with its twin, a friend owns and then go into hiding until someone wants it more than me and I love it.
