Why chase the speed with a 140? I am guessing that you aren’t shooting long range. You aren’t really gaining anything.

Why not bump up the bullet weight?

You are correct on both accounts. Deer hunting in Georgia and Alabama usually shots are not long at all 95% of the time.

I worked up to 61.5 grns with the 160 TBT in a M700 Mountain, but backed down and settled on 60.0 that averaged 2980 fps. I was a little leery since there is no data but plugging into QL it gave me an almost exact velocity prediction at 64k pressure and shoots well in rifle.

I get right on 2929fps with the 140gn Accubond and Re19 in a 22" barrel. Very good groups so I've never pushed it past there.

In my opinion the 280 was underloaded for the 740 Remington semi-auto - a rifle that I'd never own.

I feel the 280 can be loaded to the same pressure as the 270. My favorite load for my favorite 280 is 162 grain Hornady and 53 grains IMR-4350. There's no sign of over-pressure and I've reloaded some cases more than 10 times with no problem. That load shoots 5 shot sub-MOA.

I have some IMR4451 that I'll be toying with, but IMR-4350 is hard to walk away from.

I prefer classic.
