If a fellow had a kimber Montana he planned on using for deer hunting, and said rifle was chambered in 260 Rem and shot both bullets in 123gr flavor into 1/2-3/4 groups consistently at 2850 fps, which would you use for deer at ranges from point blank to 600 yards?

Oh, and believe it or not, deer bite. Fairly hard.

I’ve used both within those parameters with good luck, mostly out of a Tikka CTR. Honestly I’d want more bullet these days...

If I had to pick one it’d be the Scenar.

123 Scenar has been working for me for the last few years on antelope, whitetail and mule deer. I've not bothered with other bullets out of either of my 260 AI's. 3090 fps.

Sounds like the Scenars are the way to go. Anyone else with any input?

Scenar over amax, but I would go 139 over 123. The 123's have killed everything I've shot with them out of my 6.5CM, but they don't always stay together. The 139's stay together like the 7mm 150's, 30 cal 155 Scenars.

In my limited trials, my rifle hates the 139s. The 123s are money. Probably just needs more work on my end, but for the time being, that’s where I’m at.

Understood. The 123 Scenar killed everything I shot dead as a hammer, a handful of kills there was no exit and no bullet - just shrapnel. I prefer to have an exit for a blood trail, but so far nothing that had the bullet blow-up had to be trailed at all. I'm sure you will be fine.

I’ve used the scenars in my 260 at 3050 with good results. Everything I’ve shot has been DRT so far. I’ve wanted to try heavier bullets but gonna wait till I start working on load for the fire formed Rayhill rocket

Is been using the 123 amax with great success out if my creed for last 4 deer seasons. We are 5 for 5 with it, everything from little 2 year old bucks, up to a 8.5 year old, 300 lb brute.
