I build portable shooting benches starting with table leg kits from places like Home Depot, basic hand tools, 3/4" plywood, hardware and this is what they look like from start to finish. They are collapsible, flat, sturdy, fit nicely in back of SUV or pick-up. Drill a couple of holes on each side for rifle support, polyurethane the plywood.

I made mine from 1 1/4" car decking. Leg's are 1 1/4' black pipe. The bracket's are 1 1/4" pipe flanges. To get the angle I cut #/4" Hardwood pad's the mount the flanges on. The hardwood pad's are glued and screwed to the under side of the top. Extremely solid table. I like the handle on the other tables!

I am going to use the folding table legs and go with a box frame inside of two sheets of 1/4" plywood. Is this too light even with an internal frame? The frame will be 1" by cedar as I want this to be easily portable. Thoughts?
