Making things from scrap/junk. We are cutting up an old hay rake, I'm making steel tube wire gate end pipes. I cut to length, then weld parts of old chain links to hold the barb wire.

Any of the 'fire rednecks come up with ways to make useful things cheap?

hell ya. i got a pile of washing machines, lawnmowers, furnaces, etc out back that i have used for various redneck things. i made a log skidder out of some duct work and skis among other things. it works for moving those big rounds around. pretty crude but effective. i pull fittings, hoses, etc off the schit before i scrap it. i have boxes and shelves of crap that my kids will inherit. they will be thrilled i'm sure. my old man did the same thing. i still have some of his stuff. it has come in handy a lot of times.

I have read a stockpile of junk around is a mark of poverty. I must be mighty poor!

My two adult (sort of adult) sons who live in Missouri love to cut, weld, machine things into repurposes. They both have good vehicles and motorcycles, but they get the most fun out of their frankenvehicles. They get it from their maternal grandfather, I'm sure. He was one of those rural mechanical geniuses. Latest project I heard about is making remote releases for dog-training bumper launchers from old RC car parts.

Got a couple of really nice firewood racks made from manure spreader beater bars. They came from the local Case plant when it closed. Friend who was CFO there got a whole barn full of stuff.

Making a waterfowl blind seat and decoy cart out of a camping canvas and aluminum rocker and high wheels off a lawnmower. To old to pack deeks ,gun, waders, and food in on my back, and packing all the above plus ducks and geese out just requires a cart of some sort.

I've made a stand for my powder measure, a stand for Jake's DeWalt cutoff saw, a router table, and more from scrap .

Yup.

I've just about got all the stuff I need to build a small Hi-lo, it'll lift 2000 lbs about 8 feet. Ain't very high but it's all I need.

The base for my grinders, anvil, and a few other things are made out of 14" auto wheels. I don' t throw any steel away.

I'm glad to know that I'm not the only one who has a junkyard on the premises.

This thread caught my eye-I'm using junk, but my trouble is I'm trying to keep it running/working for what it was originally purposed for!

Only good thing about it is the bank isn't going to come after it cause it ain't worth nothin'!

Right. Good digger, the mud dauber welds capture the true spirit of the exercise and the bolt bin begs to be browsed.

My old man was the king of keeping old junk for reuse on the farm. Me and the little brother called him Fred Sanford. 😬
