I think the decimal point is too far to the right. There are lots of other places that I'd want to put 17K.

AlleghanyMountain: Well, if in fact, Mr. Roger Rule has inspected this Rifle first hand (as is inferred in the listing you linked to!) then it is much more than likely, it's legit.
I am puzzled about the $215.00 (two hundred and fifteen dollars) shipping fee. Apparently after you burp up the rather high "minimum bid" you must burp up another rather high batch of money to have it shipped to you?
No bids yet - not to surprising there.
The 300 Savage pre-64 Winchester Model 70's are indeed VERY rare birds (362 total manufactured!).
My feelings is this is indeed a $10,000.00 + Rifle - maybe $12,500.00 or $13,000.00?
I would be surprised if it sells for MORE than the asking minimum bid ($17,500.01 - don't forget that penny when bidding!).
But keep in mind there are a lot of people out there that are in the class of "money is no object"!
Just have to find ONE that is interested in ultra-rare pre-64 Winchester Model 70's.

Thanks VarmintGuy. Unfortunately for me, I only had 17,500 budgeted, that extra penny knocks me out!

If the 215 shipping covers insurance as well then it makes sense to me.

If that rifle sells, the person that buys it ain't going to care what it cost to ship it.

Just sayin

I put this on my watch list earlier, for I have followed some items of his before. Interesting pieces at times.
This seller has some nice inventory, but they all have
exaggerated condition adjectives, in my opinion.
Pristine, best ever seen, none better etc. etc.
One thing is for certain, if he gets over 10k , I believe I will have one
for sale pretty darn quick....

I wonder how much a shipper would charge for $17K worth of insurance?

USPS I think maxes out at 5k declared value.
Fed ex would charge about 175.00 , insured to ship that rifle
from my figuring...

Indeed. On the other hand, if I paid $17K for a rifle I would drive there and pick it up.

I was thinking the same thing actually

Only difference i was thinking is anybody that would pay 17.5 for that rifle could probably take their airplane to pick it up

Wrong. Registered Mail can be insured up to $50K.

If someone is seriously considering dropping $17K on a rifle, why not spend a few hundred dollars on a plane ticket and GO SEE IT?

I’d want to personally examine the gun and make sure that’s Old West Snake Oil that’s slathered all over the stock rather than an extra coat of varnish or something else more permanent.

Rifle-wise for bunch less you could get one made in long barn with windows in Dowagiac Michigan. The company was named after Adolph Otto Niedner. This is real good stuff comparable to Avant-Grande from London UK.
