Snap shooting. When I was a kid in rural Pa we were warned not to stray about too far. Snap shooting was popular for old farts who figured nobody should be on "their" mountain anyway. Particularly that neighbor who told the feds where the still was. NH, I always heard them referred to as sound shots.
