so I have a 336, a 94 and a marlin 1894 in 357, never even handled a model 92. what is the deal with these? what are their strong points and weak points? better than an 1894?

The Win 92 was designed to be a smaller version of the 1886 model but was designed specifically for pistol calibres. This gave the user the option to have a pistol and rifle chambered for the same cartridge. The twin locking lugs of the 92 (same as the 1886) provide a lot of strength. It is a very strong design. Feed them ammo of the proper length and bullet style and they feed and cycle beautifully. They also balance and handle well in carbine trim.
The main downside is they are more complicated and are not easy to dismantle and reassemble. Plus, as they are a top eject they are not suited to scope use.

how handy are they compared to the marlin 1894? speed of levering? quickness of swing and pointing? more or less pinache?

I have one in 38-40... sweet handling little gun - much more so than a mod 94, Much shorter lever throw.
