So here is the scenario...I told my son if he got his Eagle Scout award I would take him pig hunting in Texas. He is 14 and will have it wrapped up by year end. Thinking about trying to get something put together for this spring. I have hunted Texas in March and that seemed like a decent time to be down there. Here is the general parameters of what I am looking for...

Must Haves:
-Self guided or semi-guided (I don't mind having someone on the property or dropping us off at stand locations but would prefer to not be accompanied when the actual hunting starts)
-Low fence
-3 Days minimum
-Decent pig populations and ability to kill multiple hogs (not needing to kill a pile or any huge boars but would like to have a reasonable chance of success on multiple hogs over the course of the trip)
-Reasonable accommodations on the ranch or within a short commute
-Reasonable proximity to a major airport (within 2-3 hours is ideal)
-Ability to hunt a variety of ways other than just feeders (we don't mind some feeder hunting but like options)
-Large enough property to move around some over the course of the hunt
-Ranch that isn't over hunted so there is some pig activity in the daytime

Nice to Haves:
-Options for other game, particularly Javelina and predators
-Facilities for processing our own kills
-Limited or no other hunters on the property (depending on the size ofcourse)
-Dramatic music right before we take a shot

It will for sure be two of us and possibly up to four if his mom and/or grandpa wants to go. If anyone knows of a property, landowner, or outfitter that might be able to provide what I am looking for I would love some suggestions. I am willing to pay for a quality property and experience but don't need first class.

PM works great or email medrivertradinggmail.com

Thanks!

Was wondering where the link to the place was too?

Pigs here are a problem.

Every year it gets worse.

Shoot as many as you can.

That being said, many have turned this endeavor into a money making venture that should NOT have gone that route.

Crop damage is bad. Ask a farmer that has to deal with these roving eating machines. Every one I know wants them dead and not returning to destroy/eat the crop.

Hogs travel miles in a night to find a food source and a property that charges to hunt these things creates a safe place for them to return to when they are done destroying the crop.

That property is not doing anyone any favors....at all.

As far as day time activity that will depend on the hogs, they just get nocturnal sometimes regardless of hunting pressure.
March is a good time to go down to Texas, most of the freezing sleet and snow will be over and the twister are not very common at all that time of the year, hail storms are also less frequent.

I would go over to Texas Hunting Forum or Texas Bowhunter and look over the outfitters sections. Lots of great spots to go to but some can be put and take.
They will start booking up now that deer season is in full swing so get on it I would say.
And now, no hunting license required on private land for hog hunting.

Lazy R Hunts near Eagle Pass, TX. was where we went last February. 2 Javalina and as many pigs and predators as you want for 3 days of hunting. Friends set it up so I don't have contact info. They drive you out to a stand. You can be by yourself or with your son. My wife and I sat the 1st and 3rd day together since she wanted a javalina and I seemed to attract them.

I was told we would be hunting in thick brush. It is true the brush is very thick, but they have cut sendaros so the ranges can get pretty long. It was cold when we were there so the pigs weren't moving much, but everyone got something.

A buddy and I are also looking for a place to hunt pigs in Texas during daylight hours. Would be interested in going as soon as next month. Wouldn't mind adding Axis or Nilgai to the mix.

My buddy is looking at PRONE OUTFITTERS; anybody know them?

Not trying to hijack your post MedRiver, but figured this might give it a bump!

No problem Elkjaeger, I actually was looking at Prone earlier today. Some sketchy reviews on Facebook.

Thanks for all the input from everybody so far. Definitely helps with the research!

High or low fence should not matter on hogs. You are limiting your options for no reason. Hasbeen

I've hunted with the team at Pope Brothers for the last 5 years. Mostly Axis hunting but they hunt hogs every year and are honest folks who will work hard to make your hunt a sucess. They have access to thousands of low fence acres. I've seen lots of hogs while hunting with them. PM me with any questions or contact Josh Johnson or Clay Pope from their website. Good folks.
