Could use some suggestions.
FIL bought himself a win m75 and rem 513t recently. He would like a fixed 8x or 10x in duplex reticle, but knows will likely end up with a variable. 50-100yd ranges. He cannot always see a fine crosshair well, but a duplex is fine. He doesn't care for any of the hold-over reticles. 86yrs young, doesn’t use the computer to shop. Thought Santa might bring him one.
A weaver 3-9 or leup 3-9 (would need custom shop to put in a duplex reticle) are obvious solutions. Any other quality choices, suggestions? Will post a WTB in classifieds; might get lucky with an older leup fixed power.
Golldammed motion detector lights. A guy can’t even piss off his porch in peace any more.

I had a fixed 6x on my rimfire for a while and for range work I was very pleased. I would think what ever brand you go I would try to get a side focus model opposed to a front AO model.

With aging eyes your father-in-law might also ought to consider checking out post reticles.

what about a weaver rv7 with the dual x reticle, nice clean scope that would go well with those older 22s, not a fine cross hair either

An older 2.5-8x36 would be another nice choice. They run around $300 for a "gift grade" one.
Also, Vortex has a 2-8x?? diamondback HP model, that has side focus. It won't have the classic look of some other scopes though.

Have you looked at the rifles to see if they are dovetailed or drilled and tapped for mounting a scope, most of those models were not. drover

Nice scope but I just don’t think that model would look right sitting on top of a classic like a Winchester M75. In a fixed scope I do think 10x is a tad too much if he will be doing anything other than target shooting from a bench but that’s just me. Let us know what you end up with.

Thanks for the suggestions.
Yeah, he’s spoken longingly of past lymans iirc of 8, 10, 12x for bench shooting. Health failing some, so bench shooting it is. Re: mounting, the win m75 is a later one i think, having 3/8” grooved receiver. The Rem was d&t at the rear bridge then again over barrel shank, like a barrel block, with weaver bases installed. So, pretty ready to go.
Ed, you’re right of course on the weavers. He has the 2-7 on an anschutz bavarian (m54), and wants for more magnification. I found/bought a 12x40 AO leup for him for Christmas, hopefully he likes it.
Funny rascal, am down visiting him today, and he stumbled into an anschutz m64 with a leup 3-9x AO on it when we stopped in one of his honey holes. He got a wild hair and put it on layaway. So he doesn’t need any help finding nice rifles, that’s for sure.
