That's nice body 4 point Jeff! I passed on a forky opening day...I should have shot as it's the only buck I've seen and it had a big body. No more MN hunting for us. We are headed to WI on Friday morning to give it a shot there. We'll have a fun crew and a full camp this year. Really looking forward to it.

It so awesome when the kids do well. Never in a 1000 years would I have ever thought I'd feel that way. But I do. Nobody mentioned that in the parents handbook, that you'll be more excited for you kids to succeed in the woods. They can shoot ever big buck in the woods as far as I'm concerned. I'll be happy with nice fork horn for the freezer. Or a doe when the tags permit.

We are all happy for Joey. Knowing Joe, I wish I could have been there to see his level of excitement. It certainly cannot be matched by anything.

It sure makes me feel good that Joey got that one. I was pretty happy when I saw the FB post. What great icing on the cake, eh?

By the way, how is the grouse population up there? My dad has a place south of you (Pennington) and the grouse pop there is beyond horrible.

Grouse population seems healthy. One of the girls popped one in the cabin yard on saturday. Joe has taken quite a few this fall, I have heard them every evening as they flap their way up into the tag alders, birch and poplar tree tops to feed in the fragile branches on buds.

Great comments Dave. It's cool to be to the point where it's more important for the kids to fill a tag than it is for us. I feel the same way. Good luck to Tom and Jackhammer as they head to Sisconnie. 'Got a feeling Jackhammer's gonna score on a big one.

Last day of rifle season. Nathan was in brown its down mode, downed a small brown.... lol

In an equally weak moment for myself, I took a dry doe with a henry lever action 44 rem mag that was given to me as a gift. One of those rifles laying around that needed to take its first deer. It was a nice experience even though I didn't really care to take a doe. Very quick and clean kill, neck shot bang flop, no wasted meat.

Its been a super fun season with grandbabies at camp.

Well, the last day of the season I was content to sleep in as I had passed up a nice buck the night before and the kids had provided plenty of meat, but my daughter wanted to go. I am sure glad she did. Had to pull off a spot and stalk on this guy with my brother. Great hunt. Didn't know he even existed as he wasn't ever on our trail cams. Some days it pays to get out of bed! For the numbers crowd: 12 ga Beretta with Barnes Expander slugs. 157 4/8".

I have not been out much this year due to health issues but love seeing the nice bucks posted here.
This morning was a lucky day. I saw 3 bucks between 9 &10:00 am. This one ran by but stopped at about 70 yards when I yelled at him. Whistling & bleating didn't work but a loud HEY got his attention. Go figure.
Dave, the 44 mag is a good deer round. If I wasn't hunting the edge of a big field that's what I would have had with me.

Mine only weighed 161 pounds. That was 20 pounds less than a 2.5 year old my son shot. His nose to eye measurement was very small too. We are going to get a tooth aged. Seems crazy his body was so small.

Do you mean the lack of snow? We had a few inches around the 13th or 14th but it has been in the 40's for a while. I do like snow for hunting but it's nice not having to shovel it. How much do you have up there?
