Had a real pretty red one around the farm I hunt last year.
Looked like a Yuge red fox, heard a farmer shot it off a combine in the next farm.
It was pretty,I had it about 40 yds once during bow,but didn't launch.

This is the fourth coyote this year...all were traditional grey with black guard hair with white tip tail...after shooting this reddish colored one the next morning there were 4 more in the same field...all traditional colored...
I took him to the taxidermist to have him tanned..he was considerably larger than most around here...

Shot one here on the Ranch many years ago that was damn near the color of a Red Fox.

Interesting thing I found out....
There are 19 sub spices of coyotes ...the border of three of them are real near here in southeast Nebraska...one border for the eastern coyote follows the Missouri River...about 6 miles away...the southern and plains coyote border looks to run almost directly through our farm...so maybe this one is a mix cross breed with one of those other types.

This is about the most reddish one I ever killed, and really not far out of the ordinary...

We have one family of reddish coyotes in the adjacent oil field/wildlife refuge and one family of much darker, nearly black, ones with white tipped tails. First white tips I've ever seen, and I've lived in all regions of the States except the South. When I lived in Idaho, many were almost yellow, and those brought the highest pelt prices. I was told that they were the easiest to dye other colors.

I’ve seen a few black coyotes around here and some with a reddish tint, I was told they breed with domestic dogs at times if the male population is thin.

We occasionally see them the color very near a red fox. When I still had a pack of coyote hounds, these were considered off limits to all but the younger hounds as they ran circles much like a fox but larger. I sat on a hill one day for over 6 hours and never lost hearing the race and it was a barn burner. I was taught by my grandfather to protect them as they were the best pup trainers. Never in all my days of running hounds do I remember one this color phase lining out and leaving the county.
