When either my wife or I see something we want, we buy it, consequently that makes shopping for each other very hard. So, here's what we have done for the past 10-12 years............after she retired from her job, she starting substitute teaching at the elementary school where the grandkids attend. The local schools here have a program called "Angel Tree," in which kids who come from poor families that would not be able to afford much in the way of Christmas gifts for them, can apply for the names of those kids to be placed on a Christmas tree. People select a name from the tree, and there will be a card listing several things the child wants for Christmas. The things they want usually consist more of clothing rather than toys. There are no names, only a number on each card, and there will be an age of the child and the size clothes they wear.

We always select 2 names, and go shopping for them on Black Friday, although this year, my wife did about all of that online. We also usually buy a few things for the child that are not on their list, a little surprise from Santa doesn't hurt a thing. My wife and I were talking once about the sincerity of the Angel Tree program, and whether or not all the kids on their were truly needy. She said that once at school she recognized a second grader in a class she was teaching wearing some of the clothes we'd bought, and she knew this little girl was the one we had shopped for. She said that there was no doubt in her mind that the child needed those clothes, and probably more, as the family was very poor. Now, a lot of these kids come from families that have been affected by drugs, and parents who'd rather lay on their azz instead of get out and work. But, a little kid cannot help what their parent is like, and deserves a Christmas just like any other kid.

I bought my ex a nice Stihl chainsaw one year...didn’t go over real well...
I honestly think they want you to figure out their “riddle” more than they want the actual gift when they say that they want “nothing”.

It's (commercial) Christmas around here 364 days a year. We get what we need, sometimes what we want.
We reserve December 25th for celebrating the birth of Jesus Christ our savior .

We pray our sights be straight
and our aim be true
We pray for no pain
to the game we pursue
We thank you Lord
for this land
We thank you for the sights
from our stands
We pray for safety, one and all
We pray we may return next fall

Same boat here, if the wife wants or needs something she gets it. Last year I bought her a Rumba robot sweeper. When she saw it she responded with Really. Two days later she said it was the best gift I have ever given her. She has it set to sweep every day when no one is home. And she can run it from her phone when she is and is not home. Lil pricy but worth it..

James ,
This seems far more rewarding than any gift you could give the Mrs.

Back in the early eighties, kids back then, I did not buy her a gift. Until I bought her a tape player that would play, and record it made Antarctica in a cold snap feel like a heat wave.

I wish I could convince more people to think this way.

Flowers are nice. Us men need to find the proper gift if we don't want the flowers to be for us like this. laugh[Linked Image from flowershopping.com]

A friend bought his wife a new 20 ga. shotgun a couple of Christmas’ ago. Then he borrowed it and went hunting without her.

Another generic bottle of Viagra. There was no pause in menopause with this one. At this stage in my life most days I'd rather have a sandwich. Oh well, happy wife...

Im in the same boat as many others in that if I want something, I buy it and if she wants something, I buy it lol. We have given up on the "cute factor" on gifts for each other. I will usually buy a few things that i noted that she has said she liked over the year, and then give her a couple hundred dollar amazon gift card so she can get what she wants. Im lost when trying to find stuff for her craft hobbies or clothes etc she likes so the gift card works best. She usually buys me a gun or hunting item that i pick out and she pays for as well as few small things. Works out well.

Right now, I'm leaning tword flowers, a card, and a gift to each grand child from her through me. Think that would keep out of the doghouse?

This is the first Christmas I am not buying her a purse it seems like. Last year I ordered everything as I was out of country working, and then came home in January and bought her a new Lexus SUV. This year, she changed jobs in the last three months and now has a lot of free time. Back in October, I built her an arts and crafts table in our spare bedroom. So we went out late Thursday night shopping with our neighbors and I bought all of her Christmas then. I bought her a Cricut maker, a heat press, and then came home and ordered her some Sorel boots on Friday morning. This year, she's having a hard time buying for me. Last year, I bought what I wanted and had it mailed to the house. She wrapped it and gave it to me when I came home on R&R in January. She has bought me a pair of Vasque hiking boots, and a 1-4 scope for my .223 Wylde AR15. I've told her to surprise me with the other gift, that didn't go well. I'm fine with another AR upper for a 28 gauge O/U for grouse and ptarmigan hunting.
