kroo88, where exactly is Square Butte in your area? There are a couple of them called that down here!
We have a foot of new snow on our square buttes. I like your dog also. Is that a Chesapeake?

Kenny, yes a Chessie. Square Butte is between Stanford and Ft Benton, east of Great Falls about 50 miles. You can see the town of Square Butte in the right side of the photo.

As bad as i hate the oil ruining the desert these flares can be nice to get 15-20 yards from on a frigid day of hunting in order to warm up. The fire starts about 25 feet above ground zero.

Good guess but no. It's Gidyea (Acacia Cambagei) which is better for burning than Ironbark. An he was close, but only momentarily
