Oh, I thought you said I needed a rifle (I) didn't shoot, so to me, that would mean I don't shoot.... Very sorry if that's my interpretation....

No one said anything about you shooting more.
And a 24” prc is just a tiny little itsy bit better than a 30 nosler or 300 ratherby. Just a new mousetrap I’d 300 rum first given .308 as the only option but they will never replace 300 grains of .338.

Oh, ok!!! Thanks!!!

I got one of the CA Ridgelines in 300 RUM. I probably fall in closer to you, I don’t ever expect to take a shot over 600 yards but love to shoot as far as I can. The 300 RUM is a monster but way more capability that I’ll ever need. Didn’t matter, I wanted it so I got it.

The PRC is another good 30 though, grab one or piece one together and have a blast. I have a 70 Classic and an 8 twist Krieger in my basement I’ve been thinking about building myself but with the 300 RUM and 220 Scenar combo nothing I’ll build will whoop it, for my uses which is mainly elk and some deer.

The main advantage of the 300 PRC is not the cartridge but the chamber. Less slop means better accuracy. If any 30 caliber magnum was cut to the same specs and twist and put in a magnum action using the same bullets it would do as well.

But if starting from scratch, the PRC would be a fine choice.

No, the edge is not obsolete as you cannot shoot a 300 gr bullet from a PRC.

One thing the PRC has going for it is the case length allows bigger bullets to be seated out, and still fit in a standard 3.700" mag box.

Someone should see if they can neck a 50BMG down to .338

Been attempted, never very successfully as far as I know.

There are a couple of successful .338’s based on the .408 Cheytac. See the .338 Snipetac as an example.

It pushed a 265 grain bullet over 3,400 fps.

Didn’t think there was that much difference between a .814 and a .777 to warrant longer barrels, heavier rifles, loudners, no factory ammo, no extended mag box, “on a 700”, more powder, noise and recoil, especially at 1000 yards!!! Wow

Thanks for the info!!

But I am going to be knit picky here. If you are going to set strict standards for Bullet, Powder, and Barrel Length, Then why now twist as well? Keep it all same same. I am not saying the outcome of his findings would be different. Also I don't personally build a rifle around a specific powder. I find the powder and charge that best fits the bullet and rifle.

I have shot two of the three looked at in the article. I killed a nice Spring Montana Black Bear with the .30 Nosler this year. I have shot the .300 WM a bunch but never warmed up to it. The .300 PRC interest me a bunch.

So maybe I want to find the good in the PRC? The .30 Nosler is ok but I don't want to be limited to Nosler brass. In the end my take on the article is that I am not sure on two things. Was the chambers cut to the best dimensions? Does the twist difference matter? Also I don't want a 26" barrel 22" to 23" would be my preference and threaded for a can. I think in the end all three are so close it's really a matter of personal preference on which one to choose.

The 30-28 Nosler will have a better brass selection.

ADG Nosler brass in my opinion is a game changer for the 30 Nosler.
My 30-28 easily runs a 215 Berger at 3100 FPS

Peterson has 28N brass on the way. I received pre-production samples, but beyond a cursory physical inspection, including weighing and measuring, I’ve not had an opportunity to fully evaluate.

Nosler’s September 2018 run of 28N brass has been quite good.

ADG is producing great brass. While I haven’t used their 28N brass I’ve used their 6.5 PRC brass and just today 250 pieces of 6.5 SAUM brass were delivered.
