Shotgun shooters,

I bought a used Mossberg 500A with a 24 inch barrel, matte finish metal, green plastic stocks, and D&T for optics to make it into a turkey gun.

Well... initial shots seem to have trouble extracting 2.75 light loads and doesn't eject 3 inch consistently.

I need to give it a deep dive cleaning still so whats my game plan to attack the extraction issues?

I really dont want to put too much money or parts into this rainy day turkey beater.

Thanks in advance.

Polish the chamber when you take it apart for a cleaning. Around here Mossbergs get abused badly, since they are so inexpensive. Probably the story on yours too.

Get a NEW 10ga bore brush and it in an electric drill with a little polishing compound. Should clear up the issue in about 10 minutes of polishing

The lion and tiger might be stronger, but the wolf does not perform in the circus.

That.... I've run into Mossberg 550 chambers so rough that it took some SERIOUS polishing to get 'em to work right.. If you shine a light in there my bet is you're gonna see a rough/ring-laden chamber... Begin with a tightly fitting dowel wrapped with 240 grit wet/dry paper and oiled before insertion.. Spin with 3/8 or 1/2" drill for a minute or so.. Remove, clean, check, repeat with 400 grit to finish..

I see a pattern here to try.

Whats the next step if that don't work?

Sell it used to the next unlucky guy?

First off - avoid ammo with steel rims... Use brass only if possible.. Next - check the ejector and see if it's intact - i.e., not worn or damaged/bent. Next, carefully note the two cam interfaces on the action arms in relation to the related surface on the shell latch.. If those are damaged to a certain point, ejection will be affected... If they're not TOO badly damaged, careful file work to restore the surfaces and retain the proper angle will alleviate ejection issues..

It was steel case trap loads giving me issues and I will double check that.

This is good next steps.

Thanks.
