What’s the going market rate for one of these now! Same as it was last year, same as it is this year and same as it will be next year. Whatever somebody is willing to pay for one.....

I bought a complete action from someone here on the fire. The safety has a mind od its own and either doesnt engage or engages with difficulty. I'm hoping a pre 64 safety will fit and correct the problem. I installed a pre 64 3006 barrel and headspacd it. It shoots ok but i cant use the safety.Any one have suggestions? Mel

Mel There are three different styles/variations of pre-64 safeties.

melchung I sent you a PM as to not hijack the OP's original thread. But to just order another another safety may or may not fix your problem. Phil

In retrospect I really should have bought my old neighbor Frank's mint .30 Govt 06 pre-war M70 back in 1965 when he offered it to me for $125.00. But no, Elmer Keith had the audacity to actually print that the post 64 was a better rifle. I never forgave Elmer for that because my '65 post 64 was just that, a post that handled like one.

Mel I sent one like that to Ahlman's in Morristown, MN. The charge was minimal and the gunsmith said it was an easy fix if you know about old Model 70s. Anyway, I have never had another glitch with the safety.

I always try to work on the cheapest part which in this case would be the firing pin assembly. Most likely, the notch where the safety engages just needs to be enlarged a little bitty bit in the right place. Phil

I never heard from the OP, here are some pictures of the rifle. Original finishes made 1941 great bore , rear sight has a filler, front is missing, the rear bridge was D&T excepional job still think it could have been factory, never was able to find a base to fit so I shortened and drilled a hole in a set of leupold I had here, planned to bead blast the bases reblue them mount a scope and hunt , never got arround to that. https://www.24hourcampfire.com/ubbthreads/ubbthreads.php/galleries/14374129/winchester-70-pre-war
