I was just wondering if anyone on here owns or still hunts with a Paul Jaeger rifle. I recently purchased one, and plan to take it out a time or two for coyotes.

I never have even seen one that I know of.. When I was a young guy just starting out... He had an excellent rep..... What caliber.. I used to see his .243's offer for sale fairly often.. In those days beyond my price range...

My friend's dad had two. Nicely done. Is Kurt Jaeger his son?

I do not own one but my uncle did. it was chambered for the 25/06. I know he carried it through the mountains of PA for years. I don't know if the grandson who inherited it still has it.

I have one, engraved "Paul Jaeger - Jenkintown, Pa."

Built on a DWM 98 Mauser action with the hump ground off, d&t for top mounted scope rings, and a trigger marked "Jaeger". Original Mauser safety. Jeweled bolt with nicely modified handle. Inside-the-guard magazine release. Williams open sights. Plain walnut Monte Carlo stock without ebony at the forend tip, blued grip cap and red butt pad per the catalog posted above. Simple checkering- two panels each at grip and forearm. Chambered in 7mm Remington magnum but stamped only "7mm mag." But for the butt pad it remains a solid, functional custom Mauser.

I have a Flaig's custom rifle of that era. I understand that Flaig and Jaeger were competitors. The rifles look very similar.

I have a Jaeger that has a standard barrel .243 caliber with a commercial Belgium Mauser action and barrel. It has double set triggers and a caurisian (sp) walnut stock that will knock your eyes out. It also has a floorplate engraved by Grabill with a desert Bighorn on the floorplate. The rifle is what I would call a lightweight sheep hunting rifle. It is not mint and has been hunted with. It also has a trapdoor in the buttstock for ammo.

Can't say. It isn't scoped and I've never hunted with it.

My shooting buddy Herman, now 97, would drive to Jenkintown, PA from Paterson, NJ back in the 1950s for trigger work by Jaeger. He would leave off the rifle on a Saturday and pick it up the next Saturday.

I have one of Herman's FN 270s with a Jaeger trigger on it. I have another FN Mauser, a 1950 vintage Weatherby in 7mm Weatherby Magnum that also has a Jaeger trigger. Weatherby used Jaeger triggers back then on their FN actions. That was before the Mark V came along.

Paul Jeager got his start working for Sedgley rifles in Philadelphia,Pa after he immigrated to the States From Germany. He opened a shop outside of Philadelphia in Borough Jenkintown. When WW 2 ended he made a good business of building custom rifles based on mainly military actions. His work was superb to say the least. As a young man I would visit the shop and only dream of owning one of his rifles.

His nephew, The late Dietrich Apel, worked for Paul then branched off on his own. Paul built a rifle for me years ago. It was trim, shot well, but was by no means extraordinary. His work was not of the same caliber as that of Al or Roger Biesen, Dale Goens, Jerry Fisher, etc., but he was a bit cheaper than those. I got on well with Jaeger, but couldn’t hit it off with Apel.
