Never heard of em till a couple of days ago.
Made from 1910 to 1917 time frame
Some say 5 k made , some say up to 26 k made
Half tube
Kinda marlinish
Kinda savage 99 ish with the bolt
Really nice looking rifles.

Been learning all i can about em.
Looking for em for sale.
They dont stay listed very long...
1400 to 2300 range depending on condition.

One in .35 remington would be awesome.

Something to keep my eye out for.

3 or 4 vids on the web about em.

Sweet rifles
Wanted to get one back a few years, but did not want to spend that much then-now- forget it.

The Russian Revolution probably killed it.
The Czar had a contract with what was Stevens then for 1.8 Million Nagants. When the Czar was overthrown in 1917, Stevens went into default and produced limited products until they were bought by Savage Arms.
Stevens ended production of 425's 1917.

Savorino,

You're maybe thinking of Hopkins & Allen defaulting on a contract with Belgium?

The old J Stevens Arms and Tool Co sold all of its tangible assets, as I understand it, to a group of investors in 1915, who then formed the J Stevens Arms Co( the old Arms and Tool Co having been dissolved). Possibly incorporated in a different state?

Anyway, it was the new J Stevens Arms Co which Savage Arms bought in 1919/20 after those investors made their pile during WWI. The whole story of the two Stevens companies is confusing since there are no surviving records, according to rumor.

Seen and handled several. It's too bad they didn't catch on. Fine rifles.

There is a short one pager on them in the Nov/Dec 2023 Rifleshooter.
