This was an unusual year due to the large amount of rainfall that filled the marshes and submerged most of the islands in the river. Hunting was limited to higher ground, but we still had good success. The nine day gun season opened on November 23 which put it at the tail end of the rut. Very few bucks were cruising or with does.

Deer camp 2019 cont.
Deer drives are another arrow in our quiver.

[Linked Image from i617.photobucket.com]

I had a buck on trail cam twice this year and at the start of the gun season I put a couple of hunters in his neighborhood but they did not see him. Hoping he was still around, I set up a deer drive the day before Thanksgiving. My cousin and her husband were here from Montana and he got a nice buck, but she had no shooting yet, so I put her in a good spot along with a couple of standers.

[Linked Image from i617.photobucket.com]
[Linked Image from i617.photobucket.com]

Shortly after we started the drive, CRACK! came from the hollow she was posted in, then there were two KABOOMS. Cuz got the buck with her 243 Winchester and the two other standers got a doe with their 30-06s. That's her with the aviators on.

Looks like a very successful deer camp and several successful deer hunts. Thanks Roundoak for sharing the pictures.

Outstanding animals again this year Roundoak! I've only been here a tad over three years and you always put up terrific pics and kills every year and with over a dozen hunters in camp, I've got to ask how do you keep doing that year after year? In my neck of the more northern WI. woods, if we shoot a big buck out, that deer is gone and it can be years before we see another really big one.

One of the camp hunters was late in sending me a pic of his buck.

Interesting story on this one. The buck was double-lunged with a 6.5 Creedmoor at about 175 yards on the edge of a picked corn field, spun around into the woods. On the follow up, which was about 75 yards around a side hill, the hunter came upon a hunter standing over the deer and he was not part of our camp and was on my property. The interloper was asked what was he doing on private land and no this is not a "finders keepers" situation. The intruder makes a quick phone call and said he needed help dragging a deer.

My hunter calls me and after telling me the situation, I told him to walk away and I and others would be there in a few minutes. This was on Monday and there were only 5 of us left in camp and I couldn't reach two guys. I made calls to two neighbors whose farms adjoin mine and both said they would be at the cabin in a jiff. In the mean time, my hunter called and said two other hunters showed up to help the intruder drag the deer and he told me what direction they were going. Aha, they were heading to the land that a Doctor from Milwaukee owns.

18 of us were waiting for them before they crossed over to the Doc's land. No pleasantries were exchanged, 18 cell phones were pulled out for pictures and I called the Sheriff Department. The three intruders would not give us their names or any other information and I said fine, Sheriff deputies and possibly a DNR warden will take your information.

Congrats on a fine season and great bucks.

Same here, I wait all year to see this thread get posted. Amazing the deer you have there, they don't even look like the same species of whitetail we have here.

The deer here would need to be raised on steroids or be munching grass next to a nuclear plant to be even close to that !!!!

Great job as usual Wayne, you never disappoint !!!!!!!

The three violators were given citations by the Sheriff deputy and need to show up in court and a judge will determine the fine.

Great thread, great pics. Congrats.

What’s the point of stealing another mans deer?

How can you show that off as yours?

We’re they allowed to keep the deer?

For the life of I can’t fathom taking a deer someone else killed. I don’t understand that ration of thinking at all.

I’m glad you guys were able to do something about it.

All outstanding, but I love to see the ladies involved & even better when they have the right tools !

How does she like her Savage Lady Hunter ?

Deb loves hers, it's a 7mm-08, wearing a 2-7 x Redfield Revolution.

She is a Granddaughter of one of the gentlemen in camp and from the looks of things, she likes it. It is a .243 Winchester and she killed an Antelope, Mule deer and several coyotes with it.

I have a 2-7 Redfield Revolution on a Savage 99-A and was supposed to be temporary. The Leupold 1-5 fogged up and was sent in. Going to leave the Redfield on.

I put a Revolution on my 22-250 not long after Leupold started making them. It's a damn nice scope for the money.

Yes sir, Tom that is the route I am taking.

The only reason I stuck with Photobucket this long is my wife used it extensively in her business. They raised the rates and she said no more.

It’s unfortunate because the platform was simple. Their plan to try to hold peoples pics backfired on them. A bit like congress...they don’t know what to do about it.

I’ve been using Imgur also. Works great. I had a lot of pics on Photobucket that I wasn’t able to download despite their claims.
