Since 9/11, why is it necessary to continue to "train" Saudis military? If we "just have to do it", via Treaty with Allies, why not train them on their own soil? God only knows how many are "unaccounted for", and, 50/50 chance they are part of Sleeper Cells? Why

Osama bin Laden was also a Saudi.

He was vetted by USA.gov but.....Consider the following, did the kid just 'snap" or was he selected for this role in a long game and if it was a long game and this was a mission he was sent to perform the root of the problem will lead back to Riyadh.

Bringing in any Saudi national "or for that matter any Muslim" under the pretense of flight training, military training, etc. will result in the death of more Americans and a further erosion of civil liberties and increase the states monopoly on violence

I suppose because we sell them military hardware they don't know how to use or maintain. Planes and stuff.

Probably not a situation where a Mobile Training Team could cover it.

9/11 was 18 years ago.

This was the first attack by a Saudi on US soil since then.

Please keep some perspective on these issues.

Members of foreign military can legally purchase gun here, when they are stationed here as well.

I've seen that happen in person.

Because one of Trumps successes was selling Saudi Arabia FOUR HUNDRED BILLION DOLLARS worth of military hardware. That is what about 500,000 well paying American jobs? Gosh some of you are dense.

Elections have consequences. 8 years have the muzz in cheif plenty of time to subvert our military and every other section of the gov. When you saw mission a cabinet position you/we should have known the Fox was in the hen house

Exactly! Teach them at home. If they want to go rogue they will have fewer Americans to kill.

But why in the world is a base gun free?

While still alive, my brother spent quite a bit of time in Saudi teaching the sand people how to repair the black boxes in their aircraft.

He didn't have much good to say about them.

Selling someone the rope they would sooner use to hang you isn't good business. We shouldn't be allied with Arabs, even though they aren't a realistic military threat regardless of how much hardware we sell them.

Because if we don’t then the Russians will. Who would you rather they answer to, us or them?

Middle East politics are a constant tightrope walk. Like it or now we need the cooperation of Saudi Arabia to keep that region under control. The run of the mill Muslim in Saudi Arabia hates us with a passion because of their nutcase religious leaders but the House of Saud needs us to stay in power, they’re probably about as Muslim as any of us, all they care about is keeping their population under control and not being deposed.

As for why train them here part of it is the infrastructure and expertise doesn’t have exist there to competently train them. Training military jet pilots isn’t the same as some guy buying a Cessna 150 and setting up shop teaching students, it requires a much more structured environment. Another reason is so they can learn some semblance of how to work with US forces, the guys coming over for flight training will be running the Saudi Air Force in 25 years and it helps to be able to pick up the phone & talk to someone that is at least somewhat familiar with how the U.S. does things. Obviously it turned into a clusterfuck with this bunch but there are sound reasons behind it. We’re not just doing it out of the goodness of our hearts.

The old saying of keep your friends close and your enemies closer applies.

My perspective does not just "end" with Saudis....all Muslims are included. If they just "have to train here" then at least keep them under constant supervision. No Passes off base, no unrestricted movement ON base and no guns at all, ever, with threat of jailtime if in possession. I think that is a better way to deal with the "trainees". Not trying to be hostile toward you pard, I hear what you are saying, but our Borders and our "Access" should be much tighter...we are still at War with Terror.

I still believe we can sell whatever to whomever, but the people from these known "hostile to America" "honey-holes" should be kept under tighter security. "That" should be their "cost" for coming here to train then. We all know that money/power ( some call it Mammon) is behind it all, but I think we could use Common Sense...and still take their money. smile

Why?
Because training and arming foreign nationals has worked out so well for us in the past.

There are about 5100 foreign nationals going through aircraft training. the idea is to durry allies and if they buy your aircraft and weapons systems, they need the training. But "friendly muzzies" need to be isolated on a part of bases with no passes to the outside world. Foreign nationals should train separate and forget this bullchit about comradery in the classroom.
The solution to no access to weapons is for everyone to carry one!

Been there - done that.

Most of the ones sent here for are members of the Royal Family, which takes in a lot of relatives, the ones who make the training cut as pilots get to go back and fly F-16's. The ones who don't are Engineers, which is what we call a Maintenance Technician.

The pilots are a best only mediocre and the Engineers are even worse. Practically all maintenance is contracted out to U.S. based companies and pays very well if one is willing to put up with the enviroment it can be very lucrative income.

Most common comment when a Saudi pilot or technician screws up - "It is Allah's will". In other words not their fault the aircraft makes a bad landing or the system they repaired was not successful.

Loved training Yemenis, just a few years before they really tanked.

There is NO good reason for any more Muslims to be let in this country..........and there are plenty of good reasons to boot the ones out that are here.
