The movies are good, but I still like re-reading the books every few years.

I had a hard time with the movie portrayal of Aragorn. In the books he is a solid, determined, fearless leader. In the movies he is timid and full of self-doubt. My forefathers failed, what if I do as well? In other words, he’s a democrat.

Ruined it for me.

Read all the books too, but I prefer the 1970's version of the Hobbit and Lord of the rings.

other than really good cinematography and visuals, the movies sucked. They were poorly conceived, poorly cast, took insane liberties with the story and plot, and were a huge disappointment. What Peter Jackson did to the Hobbit later, was criminal.
That said, I spin up one of the movies now and then, just for the visuals.

I am re reading Return of the King now. Started reading Tolkein back in 1996. Never tire of the story. I have all the other books too, the ones by his Son Christopher.

Well Sam, the movies will seldom be true to the books.

I've read the books many times and watch the movies when I come across them. My favorite character is Eowyn.

Yes. Particularly the later productions where story suffered to plug in more action.

And the book was so much better particularly the second time you read it.

I did like the books better but the movies are okay to excellent visuals if you haven't seen them get the director's Edition or the uncut Edition whatever is called some of the deleted scenes are really good A lot of the funniest scenes were cut

I loved the movies, have read a couple of the books

but I'm kinda burned out on them now. They were amazing in the theater though.

they're on Amazon Prime but they're abbreviated versions. The Indiana Jones movies on there are also abbreviated. They've been cut for length.
If you can, watch them from DVDs to see it all.

I think the best actor in the Rings was Andy Serkis. He also made a great King Kong.

They are good. I own all of them. Read all the books several times over, to include The Hobbit.
