Anybody have some good 20 Tactical or 20 Practical loads they'd like to share? I'm just starting with a 20 Tactical (see my barrel machining thread here) and am looking for data. I've done my research and have uncovered some, but a lot of it is older data that doesn't include some of the newer powders. What shoots well for you guys?

I have the 32gr and 40gr V-Max, 39gr TNT, and 34gr Midsouth bullets to start with, and a bunch of different powders in the appropriate weight range from most manufacturers except Vihtavori, so fire away with the data. Interested in both AR and bolt action data.

24.6gr of Reloder 10X under a 39gr Sierra Blitzking is all I have ever shot in mine. Shoots tiny cloverleafs and sends prairie dogs flying.

Thanks for the info. 10x is the one common recommendation for this cartridge that I don't have any more (shot it all up in 35 Remington IIRC); almost bought some more this evening, and may yet need to do so. Any idea what velocity you get with that load (and what barrel length)?

It seems that 10x was THE powder to use in these 20s about 10-15 years ago, then some of the more recent preferences switched to 8208. I've seen some mention of the general consensus swinging away from 8208 again, but don't know the details on that and whether people were going back to 10x or something else.

Sounds like 10x works really well, only complaints I've read are temp sensitivity and some people saying it's dirty. I'll have to try it myself sooner or later.

mine is a bolt gun, Ruger 77...

my two favorite bullets are Hornadys.. 24 NTX and 32 V Max...

for 40s and up, I have a fleet of bolt action 223s for that service..

for powders, I run 27 grains of H 322 or Benchmark....either or...

Run alot of Blue Dot loads also..when I take it out high volume shooting on sage rats.......but that's for another day

Finally had a chance to do some preliminary accuracy testing with the 40gr V-Max and 39gr TNT.

TAC and XTerminator both showed reasonable accuracy at ~3800 fps. Leverevolution gave much better accuracy than either one, and at ~3920 fps. So far that is 200+ fps faster than any of the stick powders are giving me, and with the accuracy I saw yesterday, I'm going to continue working with Lever and see how it does as the weather changes.

This is in a 23.5" barrel AR15, using LC 19 brass formed with Hornady FL dies (one pass through the die and it's done, no fireforming or fooling with multiple bushings, very easy process).

Loaded 700 rounds for a friend, and fellow campfire member...

We used 29.5 grain of CFE 223, with a 39 Blitzking....

Tiny bitty groups at 100 yds and also pretty strong velocity....

don't recall the velocity , but it was definitely high steppin
