I getting ready to load for a 7x64. Anyone have any advice other than use 280 data? I am wanting to shoot 175 gr partitions around 2700 fps. Is this doable? I have RL22, Magnum, 7828, H-4831, RL19 and RL17.

7x64 in what? Had a CZ 550 Lux that liked 160-grainers. You're set for powders, but 2700 fps and 175-grainers needs a strong rifle.

I've been real happy with the 154 gr Hdy SP pushed by near max load of H4350. Mine is a Ruger 77 MKII.

Hornady lists a 175 at a max of 2650.

I have been shooting a 7x64 for about 5 years now. I use 280 data and run it up about 100 fps slower than a 280 would run the same bullet.

The lastest Hornady manual shows pretty much the same trend. However, the 7x64 will use more of the same powder with the same bullet to run 100 fps slower.

140 NBT runs a shade under 3000 with RE-19.

140 TTSX runs 2958 with RE-19.

160 AB runs 2777 with IMR-4831.

These were worked up in my gun. I am also at 4500', so my velocities will most likely be a little higher than yours.

IMR 4831 and RE-19 have worked best for me for velocity and accuracy with the bullets I have used.

In my experience, the two best powders in your list are the R22 and the IMR 7828. By far. I used to load mine, a Mannlicher-Schoenauer GK with 60 cm barrel lenght (23,6") with 58 grs of 7828 and 56 grs of R22 for 2700 f/s with all 173 / 177 grs bullets: 173 grs RWS H-Mantel, 175 grs Hornady, Nosler P and Speer Mag Tip, and the 177 RWS TIG. All great loads!

I've noticed this too. My 7x64 runs slower than my .280 and the 7x64 has an extra inch of barrel. The 7x64 has a very long throat which may account for some of the loss in velocity. I built my 7x64 on a Ruger M77 tang safety action and seating the bullets out as far as the magazine box will allow is the best I can do. It is still the most accurate rifle I own though. I found with Re19 and H4831sc and 150gn Ballistic Tips I couldn't get enough powder in the case to get velocities up so came back to H4350. I haven't recovered a single 150gn Ballistic Tip yet. All have fully penetrated through pigs and fallow deer so far.

My 7x64 rifles with with 60 cm barrel lenght (23,6") will shoot 175 grain bullets at the velocity you seek, using RWS factory loads. European sourced reload data can match those velocities. I don't know why some USA sources continue to suggest that the 7x64 should be loaded down compared to the .280 Remington, the case capacity should be pretty much equal, and the 7x64 does have a longer throat. Hornady seems particularly confused, the manual I have shows that they developed data for the 7x65R in a bolt action, when the 7x65R is actually a lower pressure round designed for single shots and has a rim. Perhaps their data is actually for the rimless 7x64, but I don't trust their mismatch of data to application.
