Just to clarify what others have said - and more importantly NOT said...

You can do much better than a 270 for low recoil rifles she may enjoy these days ... (Provided you can go spend money on a new rifle which isn’t always an option for all folks)....

There a short action (243, or 223 are easy, and MORE importantly multi-purpose)
The 6.5 Grendel in a bolt is essentially one of the best solutions for recoil sensitive deer.. but not varmint (not as multi-purpose IMO).

IF. You have to stay with the 270, go light bullets, and put a good pad on it and you are there... as the OP stated, there is little if no kick difference between a 130 & 140.

As with all questions - the right answer is what the OP can swing cost wise, and what makes sense to them in what they hunt, mixed with what makes sense for them economically...


BTW Stick - Ruger also made some of those Grendel bolts in the predator platform...

One thing that was not determined was this. Is the OP one who reloads or is currently dependent on factory ammo? Lots of good suggestion what would apply if the OP does reload his ammo. If stuck with factory ammo, I'd probably say either the managed recoil that's available or if not the 130 gr. loads. He might have to replace the recoil pad if the one on the rifle doesn't do the job, I guess that's for the lady to decide after she tries the rifle out.

I've never seen or heard of a Grendel RAPR,but prolly have one in 243 Kreedmire,if only to Brokedick Trystain's chagrin. Hint. LAUGHING!

The RPM is more than forgiving,as is throat geometry and alotta schit can be done did with Magpul's of all things. That being said,they run outta room with the higher BC stuff,in relation to a Smooch,but AM steel binders and binderless abound in my larder. Hint.

Now Trystain can say she's "seen" a rifle so chambered and tease me for only having (3). Hint.

Now as to the Grendel in general,both Ruger's and other folks' way,is the propensity to incorporate AR-esque mag confines,which greatly limits potential. One of many reasons,why I LOVE a goodly sized herd of 224 and 243 Grendels in the larder,to Trystain's chagrin. No thing to Smooch 88's or 108's and magfeed from ASC 10-rounders. Hint.(grin)

Too bad the Howa Grendels weren't S/S and fed from AR mag confines,as they'd make SPLENDID 224/243 Grendel Donors and do nice thangs in issued guise,for many folks(farrrrrrrrr better itch than the OP's Goat Fhuqk). Same goes Ruger...and everyone else. Be nice if someone did one 1-7",wearing say a .125" freebore and the COAL to align SMOOCHING 147's and the ilk. It'd make for a nice little HAMMER. Hint.

My 17 year old daughter has been killing pronghorn, mule, and white tail deer for a couple if years now with a faux Alpine in .308 Win and 125 grain NBT bullets at 3000+ FPS. Her Howa scoped weighs 7lbs and she handles the recoil just fine. If the rifle fits your GF you might be surprised the amount of recoil she can handle.

I do think 110 TTSX bullets are a good place to start, and there is nothing wrong with how the .270 kills in the situations you've described. Plus there's nothing wrong with using what you have for rifles. I probably wouldn't have bought a .308 as the first choice for my daughter, but that's the cartridge she wanted.

Try around 43-44 gr of 4064 for a 130 gr just as accurate seems less recoil and blast to me noticed the same in 30-06 loads
