Does anyone own or have any experience with a Tar Hunt RGS 12 slug gun? I’ve read about them for a while now but never spoke with someone that has first hand experience. Only reason I am considering the 12 over the 20 is because I’ve found a used one for less than half the price of ordering a new one.

I had one and was not impressed, ran everything I could through it and it shot "OK" but had expected more for what they cost.

I appreciate that information. Hard to justify the cost of one with some of the information I have been reading. Always wanted one but doubt it will shoot much better than the Ruger Americans we have in 450 and 350. Thank you for your honesty.

Get a Browning A-Bolt if you have to scratch that itch. I've had mine for around 20 years and still use it all the time. Mine is very accurate with Lightfield Hybrid Supremes.
They can be had used these days for around $500, Brand new for under $700 if you take your time looking.

Browning made them for a while, discontinued them, and the result was they brought prices higher than the MSRP when Browning made them, so Browning brought them back.

Browning A Bolt, my buddy had one and out to 150 yds it was as accurate as a lot of center fire rifles, his liked the old Winchester BRI sabot slugs that were hard as granite and didn't expand..but it was so accurate it didn't matter he would always shoot a high shoulder shot and drop them where they stood.. It had the fancy wood stock, when he quit hunting and sold it I would of bought it but didn't have the cash at the time.

I don't think the A-bolt is in the new Browning Catalog. They may have discontinued it again. Odds are the prices will go UP again. They were pushing $2K before being reintroduced.

I have one, an a-bolt, a maxus slug gun, a 220, a marlin 512, normal 870 with hastings... h&r ultra in 12 & 20, browning silver with cantilever...
The RSG 12 is a good gun. It loves the barnes slugs in 2 3/4” by rem.
I would take the RSG over the A bolt for a true woods gun any day. If I was hunting from a shooting house with a solid rest probably the A-Bolt.
Two different style weapons. To me the RSG is a better all around gun to cover all styles of slug hunting. Def wouldnt pick the A-Bolt up for deer drives or walking thru thickets.

Marlin 512 shotguns come up on the used market every now and again. Mine wears a 4X Simmons shotgun scope and consistently delivers 2.5 inch groups at 100 yards. Recoil is tamed with a LimbSaver pad. This is a good bolt action shotgun!
