I live about 30 miles from there, if you're ever in the area it is a must see place. The CMP program has also built the nicest gun range I've ever seen in Talladega, Al. You can shoot out to 600 yards and never have to set up a target, computer monitors show exactly where your rounds impact. Cost about 10 bucks per hour.
Now, if we can just get those lend/lease weapons home from S Korea. Fuggin Obama anyway.
Obama has been gone for 2 years. Plenty of time for our current "progun" president to do something. Especially since two of his sons are "real" gun people.

l told my pap and mam I was going to be a mountain man; acted like they was gut-shot. Make your life go here. Here's where the peoples is. Mother Gue, I says, the Rocky Mountains is the marrow of the world, and by God, I was right. - Del Gue
I agree with mirage 23. If you’re going through there or even if you have to make a special trip, it’s a really neat place. If you’re not sure exactly what you’re looking for the folks will help out and help you find it. Lookin’ for just a plinker, they’ll help. If you want a “correct grade” they’ll help you find one...they’re not trying to rook you and they’ll break one down if you want to see what internals it has. Great folks.

I got a couple M1s at a gun show in 1997. They were from CMP and marked Denmark. Made in 1941. I paid $350 and $400. That means at 3% compounded they should be worth $670 and $766 now.
There is nothing noble in being superior to your fellow man; true nobility is being superior to your former self. -Ernest Hemingway The man who makes no mistakes does not usually make anything.-- Edward John Phelps
Except for the satisfaction of owning a "piece of history", what use is an M1 anyway?
Just because there are newer, arguably better tools, doesn't mean the Garand has lost its effectiveness. Look at the continued popularity of the 1911. In the real world, there are very few problems that 8rds of 30-06 can't solve. It's even good for keeping people off your lawn.
