Anyone know of someone that does affordable stock refinishing? I have a few guns (cheaper guns) that I would like to have refinished. These guns are $200-$400 guns. I’m looking for a finish that would be the equivalent to a new Henry, or Ruger. These look to be a spray-on satin finishes. I would be fine with that on a cheaper gun.

I found a place online that advertised $120.00 for a satin finish, this seemed to be a ok price, so I sent a stock to them for a quote and was quoted $325.00. Not quite what they advertised!!

I see you aren't getting much traction on this thread, so here goes. What reason did the online company give you as to why it would cost 325 instead of the 120?

They said that they only offer two finishes (Gloss and Matte) for $250+ dent and scratch removal and shipping , but the website clearly says different. I asked them about it, even sent a screen shot. They just said they would return the stock.

No problems with the stock only small scratches and dings, no checkering to deal with, no cracks.

No reason you can't do that kind of work yourself.

I agree, just do it yourself. If you need help, let me know.

A bit of OCD motivated taping to cover any factory hand cut checkerg goes a long way towards a nice result in refinishing. As for scratches and dents. See if you can find what yacht bright-work guys do.
Generally prep sanding, then tape around the flaw, followed by a few coats to approximately level up the surface before more general wide area coats.
Note these guys usually are working on vertical slightly curved surfaces, so the challenge of a oval surface is pretty relevant.
Key point is to take your time.
Good luck

I used Minwax Tung Oil Finish to do a couple of stocks. It was so easy. After sanding,I wiped dust off with Mineral Spirits, taped off the butt pad, then wipe on the Tung oil finish. The stuff is really thin so you re-apply about 5 coats and your done.I wasn't in a hurry, but you're supposed to let each coat thoroughly dry between coats. It took several days to complete, but it was so easy because you just wipe it on with cheese cloth.Looks like a factory finish.

There is a product in a green (and red?) Steel quart can that will re-mobilize a finish so it spreads around to fill scratches and dings. I used it on an old inlaid wooden card table with good results.
