I’m wanting to add a 300 WM or 30 PRC to my hunting rifle collection. After putting my hands on most everything out there under $1500, these two rifles are what’s left from the list.

I plan on loading and shooting heavies. Which one would you go with and why? Any experience with either and your pros/cons.

Appreciate it.

Mesa and it is not even close. Better Trigger,Stock and you can get more aftermarket stuff since it is a Remington 700 clone.

Mesa in 6.5 Creedmore. Shoots factory ammo amazingly and have never come close to finding a reason to reload for it. My Brother now owns it and will never part with it.

I have way more 260, 308 and 7-08s than I need already. Mr. Coleman built me a 260Rem over 20 years ago that gets the nod before most when hunting from a tree stand. Not saying I’ll never own a Creed but right now I have no need for one.

The reason for wanting a big 30 is mainly for sitting in box stands on power lines.

Could the Mesa be thrown in a sako hunter due to being a clone?

I’ve heard the Browning shoots nice, but I would say Mesa.

Better stock, trigger, slicker bolt plus you can get aftermarket 700 parts.

That's the problem I'm having with my new 6.5CM Mesa. I could go ahead and reload for it, or just spend the money on this awesome ammo I'm using....

I recently purchased a Mesa in 300WM. It is a sweetheart. I don't use the brake and it is very comfortable to shoot. So far, I have worked up a coyote load ( 110Vmax at 3400) a 150SST @2750 (308 level) Barnes 150 TTSX @ 3368, the 200NP 2800 for the H4831 load and 2900 with the R23 load. All these are .90 down to .43" for 5 shot groups! Chamber is tight( minimum spec) so you run into Max a couple grains before book Max. These all shoot to the same P.O.A +2"@100. Amazing. I ordered another Mesa in 6.5 Creedmoor to go with it!

The Mesa is what I was leaning towards already. Looks like I’ll be picking up my happy retirement to myself rifle tomorrow.

Good for you! I am very interested in seeing how it works out for you. Are you getting it in 300WM or PRC? Where are you going to get it?

PRC. It looks like it has some advantages over the WM.

One of our local stores, Van’s, has them in stock and treat me well. I try to buy local when I can.
