Between rain showers and buck fighting.

Montgomery Ward's Master Quality Michigan. 3 1/2 pound head I put on a House Handle 36" haft. This one resides on my back porch.

Unnamed Jersey axe, 3 1/2 pound, I put on a straight 36" haft. Guessing it's early 1900's

Germantown hatchet head (a Philadelphia company, a few blocks from Independence Hall) .Another early 20th century axe earning it's keep. It's 1.75 pounds, which is a big hatchet head, but has a very small eye, 1.6". I ended up putting it on an 18" haft but thinking about pulling it and putting it on a 28" boys axe handle. Still, a cool little axe

And these pics are to our friends to the north. Mark VI Webley, with the Germantown axe in the backround.

I also have a pretty nice Connecticut head that I'll be handing soon and a double bit on an Adirondack handle. Points if you know what an Adirondack handle is.

Not really. A few axes and a few hatchets. The only one that might be considered 'cool' is a Norlund...

I could be wrong but I believe it is just like a single bit handle used on a double bit. For felling you would you use the bottom portion of the handle. For limbing and debarking you choke up past the curve for more precise work.

That would be correct on the handle style.

You fellas know about Rixford axes? I've a single bit that is stamped XFORD. I assume that it is a Rixford that did not get a full brand stamp strike. There is a small 3 1/2 stamp which probably indicates head wt. Another stamp is R44 which might mean a 1944 DOM or is a catalog number or the location where it was manufactured since there were three Rixford factories. Anyone know for sure? Rixford was bought by TrueTemper of Canada in the 50s.
