I have a 30-30 Winchester 94 sn# 1718xxx with the longer fore end usually seen on pre war 94's. I got it from a family member who used it very little and likely purchased it in the right time period. As the wood matches, and the original owner used it very little- I doubt that it was changed or altered after leaving the Winchester factory.

The receiver is not drilled and tapped for a receiver sight. My question is, as I believe the rifle to be original, would I be better off selling it rather than devaluing it by having it drilled and tapped? There is no sentimental value attached - simply a tool that a distant relative once owned.

Values for these seem to be all over the map on Gunbroker, whats realistic? The bluing is in great shape, stock has very few light scratches, bore is excellent and shoots as well as I can shoot iron sights.

Thank you

I have seen some 94's with the fore end wood going to the muzzle and others going to the band..

I'd sell it to someone that values it as is and buy a D&T model. They are comparatively a dime dozen.
