What's the twist? If 244, it may be slow.

I have a very sweet 6mm Remington that I built on a VZ-24 action.....it just happened to shoot 55 grain BTs into extremely fine groups and at 4,000 FPS and I kept it as a coyote dispenser.

As it turned out a friend bought his 10 year old son along with him and wanted to hunt deer and I lent him my 6 mm as I also had a bunch of Hornady interlocks in 100 grain BTSP.....however the youngster mixed up the ammo and shot four mule deer and whitetails with the 55 grainers.....four shots and four dead deer and at ranges to 350 yards.....all were instantaneous bang/flops.....When I discovered what was happening, I couldn't believe what I was seeing.....those varmint bullets were never meant for deer hunting, yet they did a magnificent job.

For next year I'm going to load 80 grain TTSXs to see how they work......but after seeing the 55 grainers work, I'm now thinking that absolutely anything at that velocity is a deer killing marvel.....

I can't be of much help here. My loads all use H 450 which is no longer available. When I read of it being discontinued, I
bought every can I could find.

I use 75 HP for coyotes and other vermin and 100 RSPCL (old stock) and 100 HSP for deer.

** From memory 43-45 grs of IMR 4350, or H 4350 now, and 100 grainers does well.

The 6mm I gave to my Great Nephews shot 100 and 105gr bullets really well with 43.5grs of IMR-4350.I think that load was pushing them a bit more than 3000fps.

Twist is 1 in 10. powdr

for 90 to 115 grain Bergers...

I use 46 grains of RL 19

mine is built on a long action Model 700

My wife and I have been using .243 Winchesters for deer and antelope for a few years now. We,ve been using 100 grain Hornady Interlocks and while that bullet kills just fine, in many cases it stays inside the chest cavity and doesn't exit. Because of this, it doesn't leave much of a blood trail. We've switched to 95 grain Nosler Partitions and hopefully now we'll get the complete pass through we're looking for.

Interesting ! ! Hornady must have made some changes to the 100 hsp. 'WHEN" I used them I never caught one.
The only reason I changed was Midway sold bulk Rem PSPCL much cheaper -*-*-> those older CL were tougher than Hornady.

My 6mm is a fast twist but with previous rifles, I shot 95 grain NBT and 100 grain Hornady Interlocks over H414.

We have had good results in the 6mm Rem. using IMR4350 or H380 (different rifles) w/ 90 gr. Accubonds and also IMR4350 with the 95 gr. Partition.

I no longer have my .244 or .243. IIRC, RL-17 showed some good numbers in those rounds.

With the new StaBALL now out, I'd try that one as it's pretty close to 4350 burn rate. Hybrid 100V is the velocity champ in the .257R, although not the most temp stable. Not sure how it'd do in .243/244 rounds.

New powders can to some good things in old rounds.

Mine likes:

H-100V under a 95 NBT @ 3216.
RE-19 under a 100 Hornady @ 3200.

Shot one deer with the Hornady.

Shot a bunch of deer and 4 antelope with the NBT.

Both shoot really good, I just prefer the NBT.

I haven't had a 6mm Rem. for a while now, but have owned at least three, and fooled with a couple others.

As several others have already noted, Reloder 19 works well in the 6mm. If that doesn't work with a particular bullet, IMR4350 and H4350 would sure be worth a try--and IMR4451 might work even better! I've had VERY good luck with it in several 4350-type applications.

95 partitions and re-26.

Have you ever used Winchester 760 in the 6mm Remington? My Ruger No. 1B likes it with 95gr Partitions.

Win 760 and H-414 are identically the same powder

I loaded 100 gr Hornady flat base spire points over IMR 4350 for a couple of 6mm's. One is a Rem 700 that belongs to a buddy, the other is my Ruger Tanger. He's had good success and is still shooting the Hornady's, but this year I switched to 80 gr Barnes TTSX over Reloder 17. Killed 2 deer this year at about 75 yds. One dropped right there, the other one ran about 30 yds and I put a second shot into it. I didn't catch any of the 3 shots.

Did you end up with a 6mm factory barrel? My factory Rem 700 6mm Os outstanding with 95 Nosler ballistic tips and 45g of IMR 4831.

95 grain Partitions in 1-9" and 1-10" ROT 243s, 244s, 6MMs, and 6-284s.

I have used H4895 and Varget in the 243, 244, and 6MM. H4831 in the 6-284.

My 244 has a 1-10" ROT barrel from an 725 assembled in 11/61 (RH).

100 grain partitions and IMR 7828

Rem 788 LH in 6MM was the first rifle I purchased in 1973. I don't recall ever shooting a factory load in that rifle. The only load I ever used was 39.5 GR of H380 with Sierra 85 GR BTHP. Shot several deer and coyotes, a few bobcats, a fox, while in HS and college. Loads of prairie dogs. I haven't taken it out in over 30 years. I think I'll take it out this spring and finally chrono those loads. They were supposed to run about 3000. Always got 1 MOA at 100 yds.

I just looked at Hodgdon's data for IMR 4451 and a 95 grain Ballistic Tip. I'd likely start there if it were mine.

No wind dead still, 1000 yrds .243 1x8 twist, 24" barrel, 4x15 vortex scope, 10 rnds in 5 min.

A max charge of RL 22 and the 100 grain Speer BTSP was a solid performer for deer, back when I had my 6mm. I don't remember the charge but the book max for that bullet and powder would likely be different for your rifle anyhow.

I even killed an elk with that setup, without issue.

95 Gr Ballistic Tips are deadly on deer.

85 grain Partitions and a max load of H4831SC. Scary accurate and kills quickly.

My Ruger No. 1B likes 48.0 gr MRP and the 100 gr Nosler Solid Base for 3,231 fps from its 26"barrel...

Jim: Do you have a source for the 100gr Solid Bases?

southtexas, I do not have a source for these discontinued bullets, when they are gone I will switch to another Nosler I expect. Or maybe a Barnes...

I am going to try Nosler 95gr BT and Reloader 26 for some more speed and a little tougher bullet.

One in ten twist will likely not stabilize bullets much over 85 grains. I rebarreled to a 1-7 twist and can shoot 105s if I have to.

Really ? I never had any problems shooting and hunting 100s in 243 and 6mm.

First thing to do is neck it up to .257...

48 grains of RL22 behind a Sierra 100 grain gameking has flattened everything from pigs to deer without any issues. Great cartridge that gets little attention these days.

Can I ask what state you were hunting in? 4 deer tags in a season is awesome. Pretty much one deer a season here in Idaho. Might be worth an out of state license.

R26 and 103 ELD-Xs are looking promising in my 6AI. I have not clocked them yet but guessing 3350 fps or there about. If I pushed I think I could hit 3,400 fps but I don't want to have any hot weather issues as the plan is to use these on called in Axis deer in June when it starts to get pretty warm around here.
95 gr. BT worked well with R22 but will switch to R16, R23 or R26 whichever shoots the best.

BTW we get 5 whitetail and 1 mule deer tag here so I am fortunate. On some of the MLD managed ranches it is unlimited or one deer per 1 to 100 acres. One place nearby has a quota of 103 deer a season just to keep their management status, unfortunately (for me) they only let kids do the culling.
