Mule Deer had a nice article this month in Handloader, enjoyable, I really miss the articles that used to appear monthly in the gun magazines of yesteryear that featured a piece of history from the World Wars. If any of you fellows are thinking about digging out your old warhorse, there is one thing I might mention. Graf and Sons offers a .312 target bullet by Hornady, #3031G, a 174 gr boat tail and in my rifles it has performed superbly in the ".31's". ......303 Brit with groove diameters .314" or less, 7.62 x 53R, 7.7 Jap and the 7.65 x 53 Mauser. Loading to velocities duplicating the original milspec ball is easy and safe, fairly well shoots to the issue sights on unaltered models. One of the 7.65's is an FN 98 Peruvian contract, so I load it a little perkier than a similar .308 Win. and it can hold 1 moa on the 600 yd line...so the Grafs bullet is a good one I believe. Dust off your warhorse and give 'er a whirl.
Well this is a fine pickle we're in, should'a listened to Joe McCarthy and George Orwell I guess.

Buffalo Arms sold some proper diameter bullets at one time. A friend who didn't know what he was buying got a .280 a few years ago, before it was over, I got involved...we ended up paper patching 150 gr .277 bullets with linen bond paper. What a PITA. Eventually got it to shoot but never got reliable chambering from the magazine. I'd ask Terry Wieland or Steve Redgewell.

I have an Arisaka that my Dad brought back from the South Pacific in WWII. I shoot on occasion, and think, if this rifle could talk ...

Happy New Year I got some custom size bullets for my Siamese Mauser from Hawk. He can do any size you need. The bullets perform well. It is pricey, but; problem solved - no muss no fuss. https://hawkbullets.com/bullet-selection.html

Arisaka is an excellent simplification of the Mauser action.

I got a bunch of T99 Arisakas. A "National Match", sporters, last ditch, originals with crests, parts and barreled actions. Also got a few T38s. Carbines, rifles and parts. They are all fun to shoot. Its too bad they are not $ 20 to 30.00 anymore. As a late collector told me "cheap is fun". When i have time to cast bullets, i do Lee 170 gc sized .311. Mel

My Arisaka 99 shoots .311 much better than the .312. It does a decent job with .308. It is a great cast shooter.

I have seen a few T38s that would bulge the brass, but I understand some of the chambers were over sized

Mine is a Type 38 in 6.5 which is my fave. I would love to have a takedown carbine.

To me bulged brass and T38 is synonymous. Anyone her following this thread that has a Type 99 handguard gathering dust pls email or PM with item and price (certainly does not have to be collector grade.
